I got my renewal in from adelaide for 480 euro.
I assumed nobody would beat it and i was right until i called that new place MCE...

The quoted me 278 for full comp, protected NCB, roadside assist, driving of other bikes etc..... Blew Adelaide out of the water!

That is very strange Gary, I asked for a quote on my Sprint before I went with Adelaide and they were about €1000 dearer then anyone else. Plus am I right in saying they dont have an office in Ireland.....would hate to be dealing with a claim ringing the UK all the time.

But very good price all the same.....;)

Tbh i dont think a high excess makes a policy useless. Its not like im going to claim unless i absolutely wreck the bike so worst case i pay out 500 quid. And its fully comp insurance too.

I used to have this belief too. When I asked the hard questions about the consequences of claiming with a protected NCD, I realised I'm only bringing head and wallet ache on myself needlessly.

Sure protected VS not protected was only 8 euro in the difference.

€21 for me. My excess is €250 and I can have two claims in a five year period without affecting my NCD after which I drop from being allowed 5 yrs NCD to 3 yrs. It's well worth claiming rather than doing to honourable thing and paying out of your beer fund.

I've just spent €380 trying to fix my Mille on the cheap after a 2mph tumble. It was a real pain in the rocks for me logistically. I was happy enough with the results but since I'm much more precious about my GSX, I wanted to know it was okay to call in the cavalry if I hopped it off the ground... and it is!

Anyone have any idea which is the best company for young drivers? :)

I've always found Liberty to be the best open to younger riders when quote hunting, have been with them since I started. 25 on a blade with them.

I was 26 and a first time rider and felt very much looked after by AON. I think I paid about €500 for a restricted Bandit 600. That was 2008. It was subject to completing an assessment in advance and achieving a 'Grade 2'.This was in the days before IBT of course.

rang mce today as heard they were the cheapest: 1300 tpft and 1250 excess:eek::eek:, liberty online nearly halved that and I'm still waiting on a renewal quote with adelaide..

    2000 Suzuki GSF 600
    TPFT
    250 excess

Aon would not qoute me because i didnt have 1 years no claims bonus worked up (was out of the country for a while last year) and Carole Nash quoted me €660. Happy enough with adelaide in the end but i got cheaper insurance last year as a learner permit holder :/

    Male
    Early 30's
    Dublin.

Full A licence with 2 years.
    3 years NCB.

I looked for 3rd party, fire and theft for the following bikes.
    '04 Yamaha YZF-R1
    '04 Yamaha FZS 600S Fazer
Both with alarm & immobilisers and both stored in a brick garage.

    Multi-bike cover
    €250 excess
    Ride other bikes
    Breakdown assist
    European riding cover
    Legal cover

    Adelaide (Renewal)
    Renewal quote was - €665
    On the phone I got - €590

    AON
    3rd party - €560
    3rd P F&T - €701
    Fully Comp - €757

    Carol Nash
    3rd P F&T - €710 (with €50 returned after 90 days)

    Liberty
They don't do multi-bike cover so I didn't bother to finish the quote.

    MCE
    3rd P F&T - €941
Excess of €650 on each bike!
They told me that they would beat any quote I got if I signed with then over the phone. They seemed like a crowd of chancers, I'd to repeat all details about 4 times at different parts of the call. Not very professional and I got the impressions I wouldn't like to be ringing up if something unfortunate were to happen.

Ring/email Adelaide back and tell them you got it cheaper with another insurer, knock 50 quid off what adelaide qouted you and give them as the other insurer quote - they will match it or be really close to it but will add NCB protection.

I always get a quote off them on the phone then email them saying i got it cheaper and i will be going with a competitor - usually get a call back from them in an hour with a match or very close to it with NCB protection!

I just got insured on my first bike,

    Age 32
    Bike 09 Ninja 250
    1st provisional

went with Axa 620 fully comp

    Liberty 787 fc, 600 tpft

Carol Nash were similar to liberty on 3rd tpft, didnt get a quote on fc.

Adaleide wouldn't cover me to commute to work, cant remember quote, low but pointless.. They said if i get a full license or 1 years ncb they would beat any other quote i get.

Mce was something stupid like 2000, was on the phone for about 25 minutes and had to repeat myself several times, wouldn't call them ever again.

Policy up 10th of March. Currently with Carole Nash.

    Age: 34
    Licence: 2nd Provisional
NCB: 3 Years (at the end of this policy)
    Bike: 600cc cruiser (restricted)
Cover: TPF&T with legal cover and breakdown assist. Cover for S,D&P as well as commuting to and from a fixed place of work.

Carole Nash (initial renewal quote): €343
    Adelaide: €322
    Liberty: €374
    Axa Bikecare: €700+

Rang Carole Nash back and they were able to drop to €332 so went with them.

VERY happy, surprised and amazed, considering my current policy was for €521 and they managed to drop the renewal by almost €200 of their own accord.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
