Three quotes €470, €378, €274, all 3rd party and on the same 50cc scooter (see 50cc scooter thread). MCE came in as the cheapest. I think they're a UK based insurance company?

Their excess is usually about 750 euro aswell. So make sure to check that

TBH this was last September, and I did ring around at the time.
I think I recall a couple of years back, Carole Nash saying that a Ducati would bring higher quotes. But the damn thing is 11 years old now, worth about 2000 if I was lucky.

jebus, 45 isn't old for a biker these days.
I bet if you took a median age it would be close to 50.
I don't see many people under 30 riding these days.

M40s. First bike last year. Honda crf250m. €580 with liberty.
Up for renewal, I've got a full licence now and 1 year ncb. Renewal: €800.

Carole Nash were a bit better on 550.

So I phoned Liberty to haggle and the said the absolute best they could reduce it to was €750. Woopie. As I was talking to them I went onto their website, entered my details and was offered €450. Happy days.

moral of the story. Use the Web.

    Total Premium - € 439.79
    Insurer – Zenith
    Compulsory Excess -€250
    Voluntary Excess - €0
Cover – Third Party, Fire And Theft
Usage – Social, Domestic And Pleasure
    Benefits Included –
ARC Legal - Legal Protection (Ireland) AXA Assistance -
ROI + EU Including Homestart (Ireland)

21 years old, Full A2 licence, restricted SV650s, 1 year bike NCB, full use of other vehicles, SD&P, TPFT cover.

Am going to ring around tomorrow. I paid 481 last year (provisional license at the time) so think I could maybe aim for under 400 anyway this year.

I was not covered for pillion riders when I got insured last year, but they have automatically included that cover for this renewal anyway...

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,357 ✭✭✭bladespin

That time of the year again.

    42 years old.
    Honda CBR900RR
    Kawasaki ZXR 750

    Cornmarket
    Fully comp
    legal expenses cover.
    Didn't opt for breakdown
    €269.

Cornmarket originally quoted€390 so gave Principle a shout and quoted €268 all in on the blade, went back to Cornmarket and they matched and included the other bike, pretty happy, pity it's their last year :( Hopefully they change their minds.

tried ringing carole nashe but they won't quote because it's too far away.. have to wait till next week. He gave an example say we offered a quote of 900 and your quote from principal was 1000 when the renewal comes we wouldn't be able to still offer that quote and I just said ah well look the quote is only 320 so really I'm only looking for someone to beat it decently or else it's not worth the effort and then he gave the spiel about being very competitive against quotes at that level of the market.. so lets see if he noted down they'd have to beat a quote of 320 on the account for my phone number...

    web quote from liberty 540

waiting till next week to actually start looking thought i'd be able to do it today.

    Thank god no :p

I'm in Cork myself, probably saved by the fact I live in fair distance from the city, and not so far it means a lot of driving to work.

I've been pretty impressed by the quote so far, considering I'm driving a car for 10 years with no claims and pay €800 a year.

Lads a question. I'm up for renewal now and my quote is about 650. Probably as I had a claim 3 years ago when my bike was stolen, but I did have no claims protection. If I go to a different company do I still have to tell them about it or does it disappear after 3 years? Or is it more?

They usually ask if you've had a claim in the last 5 years...

Still worth asking for a quote.
