Just wondering why most people prefer to import from UK rather than Northern Ireland. Why bother flying and driving to a ferry when you can catch a bus / train to the north and drive back (Costing less than going to uk).I'm contemplating buying an A4 tdi 2003 and had a look on Autotrader. From my calcs including checking vrt on revenue.ie I will save about €6k compared to the price here in the south.

I think alot of folk find the choice in the UK so much more. When I was buying the S2000 I looked at both the UK and N.I.... and the UK had 1000% more then N.I.

Yeah, the choice across the water is absolutely unreal! And the choice in Japan is even better again :D

Depends on how fussy you are. If you're willing to take what you get, then no need to go abroad.

But if you are looking for a specific model, specific engine specs, specific colour and loaded with extras... probably better chance of finding it in the *huge* UK market, and at a very could price. This makes it worth the trip.

Seeing as Northern Ireland is part of the UK I really cant see your point Mr Moanin! obviously if you import from 'BRITAIN' there will be ferry charges and if you import from the North across the boarder ther wont be (still obvious)!
(VRT still has to be paid though) on any New vehicle entering the Republic from any part of the UK (Northern Ireland inc). ;)

Probably selection, there's some major car supermarkets in Britain, none in NI as far as I know. Depends on what you're looking for I suppose.

I'm thinking of importing a Vectra from the UK, so NI is the obvious choice for me. There's plenty of choice, and prices comparable with the rest of the UK. However, if I wanted to import something a bit more specific, I'd probably go to England and head either to a specialist or a car supermarket depending on the car.

Whatever you do, make sure you get the V5 and bring it home with the car. As far as I know the dealer normally send this into the reg. office, but as you are bringing the car out of the UK and into Ireland, you need the V5 yourself. The VRT office will look for it.

does the dealer/seller not need to send the V5 to the DVLA and they then forward it on to you afterwards?
