Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was working hapily away with Canon MV600 for a few months when one day connection simply failed to appear in import video selection of Windows Movie Maker. Tried all the plug and play searchs test etc. to no avail, simply does not know its there with firewire conenction. Tests seem to show card working fine. There is a service agreement with PC but have little faith in retailers ability. Does it sound like fault with a) camcorder b) software c) cable d) card? Any tests I could carry out before coming the heavy with the retailer?

Well you could try the camera on another firewire enabled PC, with the same cable... that rules out two of the 4 possibilities.
It'd be handy to know incase they try to fob you off with "ah sure it's just your camera/cable"
You could also try the card & camera & cable in another PC and rule out 3 of 4.

I've had this problem a few times, where my camera just doesn't show up at all on firewire... as far as I recall it was a software problem.
A few things I'd try before going to the trouble of contacting the retailer.
Download and install the latest drivers for the firewire card (assuming there are any), or just a re-install of the ones you have at the moment.
Do the same thing with your motherboard drivers.
It may sound stupid, but it's amazing how many really obscure head-wreckers can be fixed by doing this.
Try a different capture program... there are some free ones knocking about on the net, trying a different capture program at least rules out a buggy Windows Movie Maker. (or confirms it, depending on your results)

Finally, if the firewire card didn't come installed in the PC, then the retailer probably won't even want to know about it pc-support wise.

Thanks for replies...will try a few of these.

Card did come with machine. Haven't been able to find many other machines with firewire to try camcorder and cable on, but got little converter over w/e so will work with smaller connection on a colleagues laptop now.

There do not appear to be any drivers on canon website and I thought they didn't exist now with plug and play in XP or am I thinking about the right thing, as I say the troubleshooting suggests card is working.

Finally a problem I have with a lot of PC issues is I don't ever seem to get OP back up CDs. I was told previously there's a back-up copy in the hard disk??

Will report on progress if I manage to do anything this week after that on hols!!
