I like Mezmerise especially Revenga, Radio/Video, Sad Statue Old School Hollywood and Lost in Hollywood. I think that older stuff is better though, I love their first album especially, and I've always loved their sound it's just so unique and the vocals are class as well. They've another album coming out later in the year don't they?

The only member of the band remotely near technically brilliant is John Dolmayan, who's a damn fine drummer. The rest are quite mediocre. Their older stuff also far excels Mezmerise, which is probably their second worst album.

they are the only band i like a lot from the past few years, good on them with their somewhat unique style.I think they are great.Mesmerize is very good but the other albums are a lil' better.

Definitely concur with what the rest have said, fantastic band, yea they're guitars arent very technical, but I still think it sounds great. Dolmayan is a fantastic drummer, and Tankian's vocals are superb. Mesmerize I like, but not as good as the 3 previous CDs. I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me a bit more. I believe their next release is "Hypnotize" to be released in November from what I recall but I could be wrong.

I just really like the System of a Down sound. I have a love/hate relationship with Mesmerize, if you ask me there are 5 good tracks, BYOB, Revenga, Question, Sad Statue and Violent Pornography. That said, I always end up listening to the entire album, again and again and again, its really addictive.
But its not nearly as good as Toxicity.

Hyponitize will be interesting, I heard a few tracks off it while in Germany and it sounded quite similar to Mesmerize (not surprisingly...)

toxicity was best by far but mezmerize and steal this album were terrible in compariuson. their first album was good too

There brilliant , although the last 4 songs on mesmerise really let me down , have to say I was a little disapointed in the album.
    Loved steal this album though.

Okay... Let's get this straight. Mezmerize was pants compared to their other albums. Toxicity was their best album imo... but I'm still interested to see how the new album turns out :)

The guitarist writes all the songs apparently including bass, drums and vox as well as guitar.

Malakien(guitar) doesn't write everything although he does have a great input on bass and vocals aswell as guitar, but not so much on drums!!
    Where did you hear that?

In an interview with him in total guitar mag i think he said he writes everything. And the weird thing is he writes all the instruments at once with a pen and paper. I think thats wat it said anyway

Thats probably the problem there. Its like he is engineering the songs instead of composing them. I could take Guitar Pro and write a song, with all the instruments in it, but it doesnt matter how good it could be, anything written on an actual instrument will sound and feel more natural and probably better.

If you look at tabs for their stuff, he uses the exact same scale, with little variation, over and over. I could play bass along with any of their stuff, cos its so predictable.

That's what Mozart did. Wrote full orchestral pieces a bar at a time, starting with bar 1 on violin, then filling in all the other instruments down the score. Then bar 2 all down the score, then bar 3...

On the other hand, he died poor.

bought this the other day and i love it.

at just over 36mins its a bit on the short side, but there's no filler here, very easy and enjoyable to listen to all the way through. cant wait for Hyponitize.

of their other albums i only have toxicity and a few songs from SOAD, so i cant really compare, but it's definetly worth your money

Who took the piss? I'm a ****ing classical musician! But he did die poor, he had a pretty terrible time for the last few years of his life.
