Help. new house, other residents here have broadband, but eircom holding me prisoner. want to set up a business from home. here was their response.

Thank you for contacting eircom customer care management with your email
dated 17/5/05. Due to the universal sensitivity of ADSL technology,
eircom broadband is not available to all customers. Each customer?s
ability to get service is affected by certain factors:

The distance of the customer?s premises from the telephone exchange,
i.e. cable length. The bandwidth available degrades with the distance
    travelled.

The ?condition? of the telephone line - this is due to the sensitivity
of ADSL technology. While your landline has the bandwidth capability to
carry voice traffic, it is not suited to ADSL.

ADSL prequalification tests each customer?s line individually based on
the above criteria. These provisioning issues are inherent to ADSL
technology world-wide, and directly relates to the technology itself,
rather then eircom's network. As your line does not meet the technical
specifications required, you will not be able to access ADSL from your
    current address.

As an alternative you may consider eircom Hi-Speed which is based on
ISDN technology. For further information please click http://www.eircom.ie/ResHiSpeed
(please bear in mind this is not the same technology as eircom
broadband, details of the functionality of eircom ISDN is available at
    this link also).

    Kind Regards,

Ouch. Fraid the only option I can see is to build up a good relationship with your neighbours and then share their broadband connection?

Otherwise you could check if IBB or NTL are available in your area

try bt, and if you got cable get NTL!

I had this problem with them at first, turns out there was a very slight noise on the line which caused it to fail when the BB team were testing it. Out technician out later and we've been running happily (or as close as you can come to it with Eircom pricing) for the last year or so.

    cheers.

maybe need to move to a more progressive state.

check digiwebs check. If your line is in "amber" condition(you may be able to get BB, but engineer has to come in and check).

otherwise, email phil.nolan@eircom.ie explaning your situation and ask for an engineer to come in and check whats the reason you cannot get BB or what can it be done about it rather than getting a template response.

For me it was a long process(sent an email to phil in early june, got BB last week).

    http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~svan/blog/?cat=9 for full story.

btw, when did they respond to you? day or two after 17/5/05 or just now? If its now, I would straight away fire up an email to phil...

You have to put up a fight with eircom/bt/whatever to get what you want.

Thanks to that, will email Phil and see how I get on.

    In Rush Lusk area.

Get some company (BT/Eircom/Digiweb), to send out an engineer and check your equipment in the house. An eircom engineer told me that sometimes it's just the phone that is causing the problem on the line! If your neighbours can get it, then it can be rectified. It's not a distance or line quality problem.

    Cheers Sarunas

For your advice. Got in touch with DIGIWEB. They got Eircom moving and now my line is ready.

    Digiweb get my vote.

Eircom, Ive been at you since last year. Eircom nil points.

That Digiweb line checker is interesting. It tells me my exchange is not enabled. Strange that, considering I already have ADSL...

Chase Broadworks for a date for broadband availability. Broadband is coming soon according to their website and if it's recent infrastructure that's been put in place...........
