VW have announced plans to build a VW Golf with a 1400cc engine running a turbo'd supercharger putting out 160bhp! it will be available in the bora and the golf GT and probably all the sub brands.. Great torque figures stating only 20nm less than the 200bhp 2.0T !

    The appliance of science!!

Knowing VW it will probably cost around the same as the GTi, €35K in Ireland. I'd doubt it is going to replace the ancient 75bhp version.

The Bora is being replaced by the Jetta in October so I doubt it will find it's way into the Bora.

yeah sort of lagging behind in the turbo scene. The japs were right after all!!! (dont mention the war)

Bazz, probably will cost a fortune to buy alright, 35k would sound right, and thats without electric windows.

oh and btw , is this a turbo diesel or petrol engine? and where did you get that info from, id like to read up on it.
and are you sure its a TWIN turbo?

it is not a twin turbo'd, it is twin charged goin by OP. Nissan did it with the micra, idea is it uses a supercharger at low rpm and a turbo at high rpm, so you get no lag.

but lag is what makes turbo fun, the suspense in waitin for the rpm needle to hit 3000 and then lift off.

but anyway, if it wont be much cheaper than the 2.0t , then i dont see who their target market is, as im sure the people that are going to be spending 35k wont be young people , so they wouldnt mind shelling out a bit more for the 2 ltr version.

If they whack that engine into a Polo and price it reasonably for ,say, 20-25yr olds - then they'd be onto a winner!
