As someone who knows nothing about Marlyn Manson & the other support, is there any point in turning up before Maiden are due on???

Is MM just spectacle & noise?? - I'm very much of the old school. Anything noisier than Metallica tends to lose me.

Went to see, I think it was, Puddle of Mud, at that barn in RDS, what **** they were, was only accompanying a friend who was mad into them and even she though they were crap - though in fairness the sound in that barn was brutal.

As someone who doesnt like MM or Turbonegro at all, I would say go to the entire thing - you might actually enjoy what either band does, and if you dont just walk away and hide in the beer tent until Maiden comes on - atleast you can then honestly say you listened to them and if either band does anything for you musically

having read this thread I have to say ...

I am REALLY tempted to bring a Union Jack to the gig to fly during the Trooper with teh words "Ignore the booing cvnts" on it. Then make sure I'm standing next to one of the little moaning f'tards who's been complaining on this thread and then laugh at them.

Oh yeah, and Sharon's onstage response, and her later media response totally undermined her own argument and made her (and Ozzefest) look very very unprofessional and immature. It would give further implication to any band planning to play at the festival that if they piss sharon off then security will step aside and compromise safety at the venue.

Why is that? Just because I don't approve of a symbol of prejudice and inequality on this island over the years. You don't know where I'm coming from so I suggest you keep your little ideas to yourself.

I once heard a story about Maiden burning an Irish tri-colour flag during a gig in england, does anyone know if that's true?
I have absolutely no problem with the whole union jack thing, I love Maiden too much to really care.

god not this again, maiden have never burned a the irish tri colour, and even if they did, it'd be nice to see someone with the balls to be themselfs.

Yet if someone said they would burn the Union Jack they would be seen as small minded and people would lose all respect for them...

And before anyone jumps to any stupid conclusions, no I'm not saying that someone who burns a flag should be respected. I'm just pointing out how hypocritical some people are.

I don't know where you're coming from? I've never had a friend or a relative who lives in N.Ireland or the border counties? I've never worked with people from N.Ireland day in day out eh?

I've never ventured into N.Ireland frequently eh? Been stopped at British Army checkpoints, etc?

Shut up you sanctamonious f*cktard. What little respect I had left for you just evaporated. I'll not even get into the Union jack flying thing anymore because it's not even worth wasting my breath on you.

I'll amend my comment about you to being a sanctamonious hypocritical f*cktard in light of your immediate post about burning the Union Jack and other people being hypocrites.

A flag is a flag. It's the symbol of a country. Who gives a flying **** whether they wave *their* flag during *their* song. It's what you've paid to see, and they're going to put on a kickass show whether oyu like it or not! :)

No you don't know where I'm coming from. And it is pretty obvious by your posts that you are totally ignorant of what some of my friends and relatives have been through. That is why I reserve my right to make my feelings clear about the Union Jack being waved in front of my face in my country. Other people feel the exact same way as was shown when Maiden played in the Point.

When we do this we are called smallminded, and ignorant. When we are doing it to make our feelings known about what we think the flag stands for on this island.

Sure it works both ways with both the tri colour and the union jack, of course it does. But you would never knowingly wave a the tri colour in front of a group of unionists who have been affected by troubles carried out in its name. I expect no different from Iron Maiden, regardless of whether it is part of their show or not.

My posts may have come across as sanctimonious, maybe they are. I haven't got a clue how many people have been affected by the troubles here but I know what some of my friends and relatives have been through and I am standing up for my own rights and the rights of others in the same position as me to make my feelings known.

I am standing up for myself and my rights to make my feelings known. WTF are you doing?

To be entirely fair, a flag can mean a great deal to someone. I mean, imagine flying a Nazi flag infront of Jewish people, and think whether that would be right or wrong. Then think to yourself, what kind of person would fly such a flag today, and what kind of threat would they pose in a modern context: Probably some half-wit idiot, and going by the stormfront users, a half-wit idiot who can only shake their fists anonymously over the internet and unable to accomplish anything in real life.

Likewise, for some people there's a lot of meaning behind the british flag, but in the context of an Iron Maiden concert, just becaue people were killed under that flag, doesn't mean Iron Maiden are going to kill you, and if you get pissed off with a band that had nothing to do with any injustices, you're looking for things to get pissed off with.

Bit of a muddled point really, but christ, Iron Maiden didn't cause the famine, so don't crucify them. All the politically correct bull**** is just a joke. "Wah wah wah, we're offended! No physical harm has come to us, but this carry-on has offended our prescious sensibilities! DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!!!"
    Stfu tbh.

To be honest Ken, that isn't the point I was making. The point I'm making is... I'm going to enjoy the show, I'm going to enjoy the music, if I see something I disapprove of then I'm going to make may feelings heard, but I'm still going to enjoy the night anyway. But I don't want to be labelled as small minded and ignorant just because I disapprove of the damn thing. That is all.

really? You DO know that other people experience life too and that it's not all about you and your precious little life pornapster?

I have several years on you and it stands to good f*cking reason that I *might* have a little understanding of what's going on. Indeed I DO know friends/relatives that have been DIRECTLY affected by the troubles so quite frankly you are speaking out of your arse and attempting to portray yourself as some sort of f*cking martyr. You're not. Get over the walter mitty complex.

You haven't experienced a f*cking thing. Neither have I. Why don't you try to think for yourself instead of swallowing what others tell you hook, line, and sinker.

I believe the exact term is "baaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaa".
That is why I reserve my right to make my feelings clear about the Union Jack being waved in front of my face in my country. Other people feel the exact same way as was shown when Maiden played in the Point.

    BaaaAAAahhhHHhhhhhaaaaaaa.
When we do this we are called smallminded, and ignorant. When we are doing it to make our feelings known about what we think the flag stands for on this island.

You ARE being small minded and ignorant. If Iron Maiden decided just to wave the Union Jack around for the sake of it, then I'd say you have cause to complain. But they're not. It's in the artwork, it's part of the song that they wave the flag around during, and it's a part of history that the song relates to. I'm astounded that people can be so petty and so full of "educated hatred" that they can't see beyond what they've been told and see the light of f*cking day.
Sure it works both ways with both the tri colour and the union jack, of course it does. But you would never knowingly wave a the tri colour in front of a group of unionists who have been affected by troubles carried out in its name. I expect no different from Iron Maiden, regardless of whether it is part of their show or not.

Yet, as mentioned before, you're perfectly happy to buy their albums, tshirts, etc and probably sing along to the trooper. It's all a pile of rancid f*cking ****e pornapster. And as I've pointed out, if Iron Maiden did it out of a sense of "lets stir some sh*t" then you would have cause to complain. But they're not so that's that.
My posts may have come across as sanctimonious, maybe they are. I haven't got a clue how many people have been affected by the troubles here but I know what some of my friends and relatives have been through and I am standing up for my own rights and the rights of others in the same position as me to make my feelings known.

No, you're standing up to make the feelings of others who may or may not be accurate, known. You have no feelings on the matter. That much is quite clear. Blind hatred instilled by the stories of others is all it is.
I am standing up for myself and my rights to make my feelings known. WTF are you doing?

Standing up and telling you you're a sanctamonious hypocritical f'tard is what I'm doing. How about letting go of the "800 years of oppression" routine and actually try to live your f*cking life with your own free thought.

Here're words for you if you're so offended at the sight of the Union Jack; Omagh, Enniskillen, Warrington, Shankill, Guildford, Birmingham. How about them apples?

And you're happy to spoil other people's enjoyment of the show just because you have an issue with a part of. Worse still, you know this is going to happen and you're still going to pay in and ruin one of the band's best songs just because you have an issue with it. Go you!

Now where did I say I had an issue with the song DJ? I like the song as a matter of fact. The only problem I have is with the flag. I'm not happy about anything on this issue DJ and I never implied anything of the sort.

And I've already said that I am paying in to hear some good music and I am going to enjoy the show. This is my last post regarding this issue. If you want to continue with this arguement you can PM me.

I heard that the bears periods attract mice and the mice then climb inside the bears ears and then they build lasers on top of the bears heads and then they mind-control teh bears and then they get the bears to shoot laser beams at people and then people scream awnd run and panic and then people leave the venue and go home and go to sleep and wake up the next day with no recollection and the mice have uber-mind-control devices to make people not remember?!!!

The "it" wasn't referring to the songs, twas the part of the show referred to in the first sentence.

Bloody hell, words and symbols only have power if you permit them too.
Really there wasnt this much fuss when Bono was waving the tricolour about in
the UK while singing 'Bloody Sunday' not long after the canary wharf bombings.

Really PORNAPSTER if it offends you that much then you have choices,
    a) dont go
    b) leave and go to the bar for the song
    c) turn your back to the stage
    d) close your eyes
    e) open you mind and see it being used in a historical context that had sod all
to do with the small minded hatefilled bigots that live up north, before you become like one of them.
