Not that I particularly give a sh1t about the flag thing but wouldn't it be cool if they waved the flag of where they were playing at the time.

    a) people love to see their own flag at a gig, I'd guess that the tri-colour gets an outing at every Slane
    b) in Maidens case would means the absence of the Union Jack which, lets face it, wouldnt be the most popular flag in the world given Britain's colonial history
    c) it would put to an end the false rumour of the tri-colour burning
    d) in the wake of the IRA dis-bandment (fingers crossed) isnt now the time the embrace the flag that promises peace between green and orange, to take ownership of it back off the Shinners (it and the word republican - as far as I'm aware, ownership (past or present) of an armalite, or being a Sinn Fein voter shouldnt be a pre-requisites to being a republican).

Looking forward to the show, wont be booing.

    Back to the original topic,

The Trooper is Maiden's 16th Top 10 single in the UK, so it's by no means a shock. In fact, it would be a major shock if the first single off a new Maiden album didn't go top 10 in the UK.

from what i know, they're starting recording of a new studio album next spring and it should be out by august or something like that

Just out of curiosity, Pornapster, have you finished cutting all the Union Jack pictures out of all your Maiden album sleeves yet?

Yeah - just after reading the last few days of thread, and doing my best to hold off a massive rant :)

All I can say is, I hope that people don't ruin my enjoyment of Maiden because they don't like the union jack. Might even bring one myself.

And AFAIK, Maiden start recording their new studio album after the tour this autumn, allegedy its a concept album, which I'd usually say is a bad thing except that Maiden's only concept album is 7th Son :D

yeah nicko was saying it was a concept album

Well on the ticket end of things - this concernt looks like to be a complete failure - a lot of people are trying to offload their tickets already, and I attribute this to a number of things

    1. Ticket price vs number of bands playing - sorry 65 euro is not a fair price for 3 bands

    2. Support acts - sorry to say, but the support acts are just not going to capture fans imagination - if they had gone for a more consistent lineup of bands, then maybe more tickets would have been sold

    3. Promotion - for months we only knew of two acts playing and eventually a third was announced - that just reeks of bad promotion/advertising

Sentinel Records, Temple Bar are giving away free ticket to Maiden to the first 10 people at the store - right now!!!!!

edit: turns out the guy who owns Sentinel posted the message about freee tickets as a joke

He'd probably stolen them off a hobo before going in.

I'm still aching after that concert. 'Tis almost akin to the feeling of large amounts of sex, only with less boobies.

Maybe where you were standing. I had my hands full where I was.

Absolutely fantastic concert! Was a bit disappointed that he didn't get to wave the union jack as it is the trademark for the song, just because of some stupid small minded peoples reactions that dont get that it has absolutely nothing to do with ireland. How would they feel to that reaction to waving an irish flag elsewhere? Id say after Ozfest, Brucie realy wasnt up for sh!tty reactions. Its his concert, should be allowed to do whatever the fúck he wants imo. Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed it! Was Manson as chronic as he/it seemed? Might have been just that i really dont like him but really didn't think it was sgreat show even looking at it neutrally..Anyway Rock on Brucie - Dont let the bast@rds get ya down!

It was a great show, and I though Manson did the place justice.

Great gig, although I was surprised they didn't wave the flag (and a bit disappointed). Bruce did address teh crowd about that though and articulated it rather well I feel

    What did he say exactly?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

    he said

"that last time they were in ireland a few people objected to the flag waving, he explained that the band has no political motivation and that the song related to events 200 yrs ago. He went on to say that next time they play he will wave the flag and hope people will accept it is simply part of the maiden show."

Yeah - good call I guess. After the hint at singing Rule Britannia at the start (which would have been a*really* bad/stupid move!) I was expecting a goadingly huge number of union jacks to pop out when they played the Trooper! But its all for the best I guess, it was nice to see people jumping instead of booing.

Great gig though, Phantom of the Oprea and Hallowed Be Thy Name were particularly good, although I still think the set list was a touch weak.

And I have to admit, I thought Manson did a good job, although his stage show was a touch duller than I was expecting...
