Camera into water...

while my brother was in thailand a year ago he bought a nice canon powershot whatever model number.

he was using it on the beach one day when it accidently went into the water and cease to work.

just wondering is the camera fooked or can it be repaired or would it be worth my while trying to get it fixed?

Water damage is rarely fixable (at least for a reasonable price), but it might be worth asking in a camera repair/camera shop. Sea water corrodes electronics very quickly, especially sensitive cmos sensors.

I know its a bit late for your camera, but I use one of these http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=&products_id=21 and find it really handy. You can even bring it into the sea and take underwater photos.
