Anybody wishing they could give people some points? A few of my friends are just 5 points off what they need, and I have 100 spare...
I mean I did little or no work during the year and just relied in cramming, and some people worked their arses off and still have to repreat.
    It's a **** system really isn't it.

I'm quite lucky, cos most of my friends got enough points for their course and more! One of my best mates got enough for a course in Tallaght, but I wish I could give him some of mine so he could come to UCD with me :D:(

I feel the same, someone I know has had her heart set on medicine for years and worked very hard but ended up about 50 points short, whereas I'm only doing Arts in UCC (360 points) and have 230 points more than I need, wish I could give her some of mine.

what i don't like about the leaving cert and cao system is that you are judeged on general subjects for entry to a specialised course, ie medicine, physics, elec eng

in my opinion we should be able to drop some subjects after the junior cert.

ie good results in maths/physics is of more importance for scinece/eng course that say english/irish/frence etc.

Absolutely, why waste time doing Irish when you could spend more time concentrating on something you may actually find useful at 3rd level.

Yep...i know someone wo worked hard for two years onlyto be about 20 short....while i got 495 for a course that's 310. It almost seems like those two weeks of work weren't worth it...

o if only it was possible..

    i'm 5 off what i wanted and 100 over what i got

some of my friends got no offers at all.
I think the system should be changed to more like the UK system relying more on interviews and personal essays for entry while also meeting minimum entry requirements [perhaps still retaining CAO points]

Well... in a way the busting your ass for the LC if you're not trying for a high points course is to prove to yourself that you can do well, and it's a big confidence boost for starting college. Me? With my long and torturous college history... Started as a UCD mathematical science student in 2002 when it was 550 to get in. Meant we all got scholarships :D Now... 2nd BSc CS... 315 points this year. :) (I'll be hearing no comments about how long this college lark is taking me...:p)

I'm 75 points over for my course while my friend, who only needs maybe 10 points to be *safe* into the same course, is bang on the course points requirement from last year and is currently sh*tting himself.
What was even worse is another friend of mine who just needed to pass physics and he was going to get a sports scholarship to DCU (I think) and he didn't pass, which sucks

One of my friends thought she was well into her course, but it jumped up 130 points. I have over a hundred spare, I wish I could give her some. Also, various friends are 5 or 10 points off what they need, and are hoping the subsequent rounds and the rechecks will be nice to them - it just seems so unfair

    I hate you...I have to repeat :(
Although due to my complete lack of effort even 100 points isn't enough

I don't really hate you

    What I find sickening is...
I was in hospital for most of 5th year, so did absolutily no study. When I went back in 6th year, I took the p1ss. I did nothing, rarely went to school, never studied etc, *BUT* I got my first choice CAO and I am starting a Level 8 BSc. Honours degree course next week, and im totally delighted.

Now on the other hand, a female friend of mine worked her arse off, studied, committed herself to her studies etc. and only got something like 250 points.

Now I know that you can say "well your course may have been very low points", but I got over 100 points more than this girl, a total sickener on her part

Not that im complaining, but the CAO/Points system is ludacris!
