Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

30 SK Rapid Wien (AUT) 15.208
    31 FC Thun (SUI) 6.887
32 FC Artmedia Bratislava (SVK) 4.850

    and the procudure will be
UEFA has confirmed the draw procedure for the group stage of the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League, which will take place at 16.00CET this afternoon at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

    Coefficient ranking
The 32 teams will be placed in four pots in accordance with their UEFA coefficient ranking. Pot 1 will comprise the eight top-ranked clubs, Pot 2 the next eight and so on for Pots 3 and 4. The sides are therefore divided into eight groups of four, with clubs from the same country kept apart - except for holders Liverpool FC, who are without country protection after UEFA granted them special dispensation to defend the trophy, meaning they could be drawn in the same section as English champions Chelsea FC.

    Teams paired
Each team will play three matches on Tuesday and three on Wednesday. If two sides from the same association qualify, they will be paired to split their matches between Tuesday and Wednesday, so one club will always play at home on one day and the other will play away on the other day. In the case of associations with three representatives, only two teams will be paired in terms of their fixtures; in the case of associations with four representatives, two pairings will be made.

    Colour codings
To ensure that sides from the same country play on separate days, the eight groups will be distinguished by colour: Groups A-D will be red and Groups E-H blue. When a paired club is drawn, for example, into one of the red groups, the other paired club – once it has been drawn – will automatically be assigned to one of the four blue groups.

    Positions confirmed
Teams from Pot 1 will be provisionally placed in the first position within their groups, teams from Pot 2 will provisionally take the second spot in their sections, and so on. Once the draw procedure has been completed, a computer draw will determine the final position of the sides within their group. These positions within the group will then determine the order of the home and away matches.

A nice draw fr one of the top teams (e.g. Liverpool :D ) would be

    Liverpool
    Panathinaikos
    One of the Belgian Teams
    FC Artmedia Bratislava

    A horrible draw would be

    Liverpool
    Juventus/Chelsea
    Werder Bremen
    Real Betis Balompié/Udinese Calcio

    Lyon
    Rosenberg
    Rangers

    we would walk that

I would love to see us getting Rangers alright.

I think Chelsea might get a horrible draw with Reál or barca because of their poor club club co efficent :D

It would not surprise me if we drew Lyon. With Hou there now it is like something that would happen. Likewise ManU and Villarreal (Forlan).

Can I ask why? Do you seem them as one of the weaker teams in pot 3?

    Serious question.....!

Also, as a Rangers fan, I wouldn't mind drawing Liverpool. Despite them winning it last year, I would still rather take them on than AC Milan, Man United etc.

To be honest, because I dislike Rangers intensely and Liverpool beating them would give me more satsfaction than beating anyone else in that pot. They are not the weakest team in pot three but they are definitely not the strongest either.

I would see Olympiacos CFP, FC Schalke 04, AC Sparta Praha, LOSC Lille Métropole, Werder Bremen all as being better teams than Rangers ( I don't know very much about the Belgian teams)! As a matter of fact a lot of teams in the 4th pot would be stronger than Rangers IMO! What have Rangers done in Europe recently? Nothing! They looked okay against the champions of Cyprus but I didn't see anything to fear from them!

Mourinho was having a go at UEFA for not putting Chelsea in the top pot. With Liverpool having no country protection, it could be very interesting! They could get both Chelsea and Rangers in the group.

    Teams I'd like to avoid:

    9 FC Porto (POR) 93.739
    10 Juventus FC (ITA) 93.191
    11 PSV Eindhoven (NED) 84.145
    12 Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) 81.324
    13 Panathinaikos FC (GRE) 70.715
    15 Villarreal CF (ESP) 58.326

    20 FC Schalke 04 (GER) 44.166
    23 Rangers FC (SCO) 40.476
    24 Werder Bremen (GER) 40.166

27 Real Betis Balompié (ESP) 34.326
    28 Udinese Calcio (ITA) 30.191

That said, I'll be happy with all draws, group stages are easy.
The only draw which would worry me slightly is
    Man Utd
    Juventus
    FC Schalke 04
    Udinese

I think if we got that draw, there is a chance we might not get through.
Besides that, I would fully expect us to win.
    p.s.

I'd like it if we got a tough team in the group stages, somebody like Juve. Assuming we got easy other matches. It would give us a bit of high level practice.

It is on Sky Sports News AFAIK! The draw should be on uefa.com as well a lot of the draws normally are!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 516 ✭✭✭jubbly

I hope Rangers lose all their games (the same way I want celtic to lose all theirs as well).

The draw used to be always early, around 11am GMT. Dunno why they have it at 4??

Im going to put money on Arsenal not making it out of the group stages :D

United will get Villareal, its written in the Uruguayan stars.

Either way, I cant wait to see the group of death, and I hope an English side is in it so we get to see the games.

The draw will be the usual 40 minutes to get the balls into the drums, 10 minutes to get them out, 5 seconds to get the bit of paper out and 20 minutes to read the ****ing thing.
It takes way to long nowadays to do it.

Theres always things like that in the draw . But with the amount of transfer activaty we were bound to get a 'insert name' going back to 'insert club' and several other coinceades .

    Edit : I was wrong its a fix  ! .

This draw ain't great for United so far, but for Liverpool, ouch!
    For Bayern, ouch!!!!
Arsenal got one of the weakest teams, and the fact they play attacking football is gona make it all the easier for Arsenal.
Arsenal are in the knockout :)

    ---

    Lille?
I dont know much about them, was that an easy draw?
