    Tough draw for manu .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭evilhomer

Benfica and Betis are the two best teams left to be drawn

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Offs, I think we are definally in the running for group of death.

    Man Utd
    Villarreal - 3rd in Spanish
    Lille - 2nd in France
    Benfica - Portugesse Champions?

what is it with these coincidence draws?! it really must be a fix, what are the odds of Villarreal drawing Manu U, Liverpool drawing Chelsea AND Milan drawing PSV

I really don't see a coincidence here! Is it because of Forlan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

    Liverpool
    Chelsea
    Anderlecht
    Betis

has to be the most difficult group, what a fix

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

    Betis
    Chelsea
    Anderlecht
    European Champions.

I'd be confident the Reds will get out of that group. Should take at least three points from Chelsea - their players will freeze again at Anfield on a big European night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,916 ✭✭✭Brian017

But at least Man Utd in a toughish group with tough games. That'll help them if they progress to the knockout stages. Having easy group didn't help them in the last 2 years imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 495 ✭✭The Insider

Initial reaction...Arsenal and Man U to get through, but Benfica in there group did not help them...as for Chelsea and Liverpool tough group...Anderlecht are easy enough but Real Betis will be tough..Rafa going back to Spain.

I will make the bold prediction that all 4 english teams will go through.

    :):)

Are you mad? Their group is yet another walk in the park. Honestly, the last time they had a genuinely tough group was 1999.

ouch, tough draw for Liverpool and Chelsea aswell.

AC milan have two tough teams, and a walkover.
    United have three tough teams.
Liverpool and Chelsea have one tough team, and I think theres a chance one of them might not get through.
    ---
Arsenal have a piss easy draw
    ---
I'm kinda happier with the tougher draw, its not incredibly hard, and I think we can win it, but I'd like at least one walkover :/
Villarreal are a shockingly good team.
Lille I dont know much about, but 2nd in FR speaks for itself.
    Benefica :/

    European Champions.

I'd be confident the Reds will get out of that group. Should take at least three points from Chelsea - their players will freeze again at Anfield on a big European night.
I still don't think that it was a goal against Chelsea - they'll be out for revenge. Betis I expect will be tough and I don't know about Anderlect. I was hoping for Rangers after we got Chelsea, would have made for an interesting group.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,541 ✭✭✭Davei141

Arsenal yet again have the most piss easy group...when will they ever get a half decent team before the knockouts.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Arsenal play Ajax yet again. I'm sick of the sight of them. 'Easy' looking group otherwise. An eastern European team in there as usual.

I wonder what the odds were on Milan getting PSV and Liverpool getting Chelsea?

Group E looks the toughest to me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 374 ✭✭meepmeep

Hehe Rangers get Artmedia Bratislava. We have to beat them now after the slaggin we gave Celtic :D

Gonna be tough with Porto and Inter though - can't see us getting through....

look this isn't a tough draw for the pool it could be a lot worse, who cares who you get? your the champions of europe and if your going to reatain it *giggle* you have to beat the best of the best now or later and Anderlecht and Real Betis are hardly the kings of europe so if you can't qualify out of this group then maybe you shouldn't have been let it in!

and after putting out one of the most dominate teams in europe of recent years TNS why worry LOL

Not a bad draw for United, there will be some tough away games, but it's the best we could of hoped for. Gwan the Red Devils!

I'll laugh so hard if Utd get worse than 2-2 home result with Lille :) That would prove once and for all that Shelbourne are a far superior team ;) Lol.

    Lille destroyed shelbourne in france

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 374 ✭✭meepmeep

I think Inter will have to play their 3 home games in an empty stadium because they got the 4 match stadium ban after the AC Milan game last year, and their game last night was the first of those

Which should be advantageous for the other teams in the group, especially since they only drew with Shakhtar Donetsk in last nights game.

The coach had this to say about it:

"You cannot play football in a situation like this one," said coach Roberto Mancini. "To play at an empty stadium is absurd and it would be better to play in these cases on the road."

Still not confident of Rangers beating them, but every little helps!

Saw the sum of the group coefficients posted elsewhere:

    1 F 296.03
    2 E 273.374
    3 G 266.53
    4 C 258.398
    5 A 256.041
    6 D 247.253
    7 H 240.256
    8 B 196.119

Who says Arsenal got an easy group?? :p

Liverpool - Chelsea games are gonna be great to watch, there was a real rivalry between them last season, and it will have gotten a lot worse since the win in May and the Stevie G will-he-wont-he fiasco. Anderlecht and Betis are both potential banana skins, they're certainly no worse than the teams we struggled against at the same stage last year.

Liverpool - we don't do it the easy way! I'd be comfident of both us and Chelsea going through. Rafa knows his spanish onions and will have Real Betis well sorted.

Your joking right ? We will walk that group. The day as a United fan i become scared of any of those teams is the day we have turned into Leeds!
I predict 4 wins and 2 draws for us.

I dont think shelbourne even got a shot on target that game, lille had so many great chances it could of easily been a rout.

man u fan very happy right here. its by no means a walkover but hardly the group of death. if united have any realistic hopes of lifting the trophy this group should be no probs.

liverpool and chelsea games should be crackers. chelsea should coast through it with the liverpool games the exception. i can see liverpool dropping points elsewhere in that group so it could be a tough one for the pool imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Liverpool will struggle, Betis might have their number. I'd predict Chelsea and Betis to qualify. Betis beat Barca in the Camp Nou last week, although it was the second leg of the Super Cup, and although Barca had already won the first leg easily, Betis are very dangerous.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The good news for Liverpool is that the pundits/critics are already wriring us off so it'll be back-to-back wins then! Paddy Agnew (Irish Times man in Italy)on The Last Word said Pool had lady luck on her side throughout the last CL (patent crap but anyway) and they'd be gone by the end of the group stage and prolly finnish bottom.

    Mike.

That seems pretty conclusive. If anyone were to have anyones number Id imagine it is more likely to be the other way around seeing as Benetiz probably wouldnt have to do any research on Betis.
    Bateman wrote:

Well now Im a bit scared.
    Bateman wrote:

    Less scared.
    Bateman wrote:

    Even less scared.

Betis wont be a pushover, but outside Joaquin they dont have many world beateres. They hardly have a wealth of experience at European level either.

I wouldnt look forward to any Liverpool-Chelsea games either, SkySports might build them up but I reckon they are more likely to be 0-0 bore fests than 3-3 crackers.
