This is kind of a common sense one, what is more important to you, your teeth or the piercing?
Did you ask your orthodontist? Surely they will have experience of them, personally I know of a lot of stories of damage to teeth from tongue piercings and that is without any brace in.
If you really want to know for definite then give Rob or Steve in Snakebite a call and they can give you a professional and honest opinion on it, and if you ignore them then you didn't get the answer you wanted anyhow.
+353 (0)1 874 0011 is the snakebite phone number, i'd suggest getting on the phone to them before you waste a journey to the "big smoke".

Oh the other thing is, if you get their advice and they say to go ahead with it, then I would also get it done there as there are a lot of considerations when getting a tongue done despite what their popularity would suggest and the only ones I would trust to do it are Snakebite.
Others will say different but really the ONLY trustworty, responsible and professional piercers are Snakebite IMHO. I think you should judge a piercers on the business they turn away and not on what they do, think about it.

a lot of ordthadontists are differnt...some tell people to take them out, others don't care...mine never gave a crap and i got mine done in the middle of having braces, all finished now though!!!
I'd recommend snakebite aswell...or else bodyshock, i've had a lot of good piercings done there too!

well you're going to have to take out the bar when you get (many) xrays at the orthodontist, which will be a real pain on a new piercing.

I guess get acrylic balls on it, will do less damage to your teeth.
