Jaguar rolls out McCallum's new DB10...sorry, XKR:

"The fundamental values of Jaguar design do not change – not even since Sir William Lyons created the first Jaguar all those years ago. The entire design team worked with those values as we looked to create a car with clean lines, a purposeful stance and exquisite proportions. We took influences from our heritage and evolved them to produce a car that is beautiful, visually fast yet undeniably modern; just as Sir William's own designs were in their day."
Huh? No mention of Aston Martin?

Yeah, the new XK (like the old one) looks like a clone of an Aston Martin alright but at a fraction of the price. Would have been nice though if they came up with a more original design. Probably shares alot of parts too as both companies are owned by Ford.

A nice alternative to the Aston. Would rather the Aston anyday though. This would probably a nice cheaper option for someone that wants the look of a DB9

At over €100K it's hardly cheap! Having said that I'd still love the convertible version, only €129K for the current model

The new XK looks fantastic. Did anybody read the Motors supplement in the Irish Times a while back where they had of the car being tested somewhere in the south. It was all covered up but you could tell what it was.

Lets have a look at some of William Lyons' designs:

    MkV

    E-Type

    Mk II

They don't even look remotely alike or remotely "evolutionary", yet these beautiful shapes defined the golden era of Jaguar cars.

Callum's derivative, unoriginal and (worst of all) inoffensive shape should be panned by the contemporary press. And yet the advertorial driven hacks praise it like lambs. For a car designer to cite some of the most beautiful cars ever made as his inspiration and then to trot out an old design from a competing manufacturer beggars belief. This is a man who does not like Jaguar the company or Jaguar cars.

PS: Exquisite proportions my arse. The e-type, widely held to be the most beautiful car ever made, is deliberately and wonderfully misproportioned with it's cartoon-long bonnet and stubby tail.

"Oh if there's an original thought out there, I could use it right now", BD
Thanks for the pics and info DS. I have to admit I love the shape of the Vanquish.
It's time McCallum moved on though and stopped puffing himself up with false claims.
