Help!!Modem Trouble!!

Ok here is the problem my 56k modem was working fine but slowly when it was running at 36,000bps which i fixed so that it now runs at upto 44,000bps.Brilliant..no! Now despite supposedly running much faster it is infact much much slower(examples are taking five mins to connect to irc and when there haveing pings of over…

Does any1 know what the problem is and more importantly know how to fix it?

The problem with connecting at those speeds is you get more packet-loss. All you really need to connect at is 33,6. You need to live very near your local exchange to get good mileage from connections of 40kbps+
