Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless Keeps Dropping

Recently set up wireless network in my house. Ive got two Belkin 54mps card in each machine and a Netopis wireless router (from eircom). One machine is about 15 feet away and the other machine is about 5 feet away. The one that is 5 feet away is getting 100% strength and the other machine is getting 60%.

Now, the two connectiosn seem to be running grand for a few hours and then they will drop all of a sudden for no reason. I have tried changing the signal that the wireless operates on and it still drop. I have tried disabling the DHCP and manually assigning IP's to each machine, which looked like it worked but i had no data transfer.

I have rang eircom tech support about this millions of time and have done their head in by now yet it still keeps dropping. Any ideas folks? The connection last for about 3 - 4 hours before dropping

I have Linksys gear (AP + cards) and I have the same problem. I know a guy that has full Buffalo setup and it is also the same. I don't know, but maybe it is an issue with wifi in general (?)

According to eircom its an "evnironmental issue". But there is nothing between my router and the PC's that would cause this

Maybe not phisically, but there could be a lot of radio interference from other wlans or electronic devices, even microwave ovens and DECT phones... Still, I am not convinced this is the source of the problem in so many wlans...

I have an SMC barricade wireless router, 3com usb cards and an intel 2200 in my T41 laptop and it's fine 95% of the time, but I do occasionally get dropouts too. I think it's more an issue with the technology (still relatively new really) rather than the cards themselves to be honest.

I'd recommend staying away from Linksys though.. I had a WAG54G and nothing but trouble with it - poor signal, frequent dropouts.. it even reset itself completely a few times meaning I had to reenter all the settings :( - the SMC seems to be virtually bulletproof though and has a LOT more options (being aimed at the home ofice/small business end of the market).

Same problem here, Belkin cards in desktop and laptop connecting to a Belkin router, all dropping constantly.

Have a d-link bridge for the xbox and its solid as a rock.
