I got one of the 3v disposable credit cards the other day,and registered it over the phone, yesterday my mate was going down the shops and I asked him to put 20 Euro on the card for me,the 3v website and litetature that I got with the card states:
Amounts up to 100 euro- a surcharge of 4 euro applies
Amounts of 100 euro and above- a surcharge of 5 euro applies

However the spar shop told my mate that it was a 5 not 4 euro surcharge.
Havent been back to the shop yet as its not my local, but has anyone put credit on their card yet if so how much were you charged?

Thats when the card was in conjunction with top-upclub.com its now a €5 for any amount you put on between €20 - €350 http://www.permanenttsb.ie/3v.asp

    Yeah.. heard this!

€350? - that's actually quite good as on 'Top Up Club' - you could only get between €10 and €200.

Got €140 on it last week and already used it all up (well, all bar 22c)!

Yeah.. i'm in Sligo so had to top-up while up in Dublin for a few days!

I e-mailed 3V a few weeks ago enquiring any plans to roll out their service in the other parts of the country (namely Sligo.. :D). I got this reply from them:
    Thank you for your e-mail.

We are in the pilot phase of introducing the 3V Voucher to the Irish market, and we do intend to be available in County Sligo. As of yet, there is no specific date as to when the product will be available nationwide. However, our website will be updated with this information, so watch www.3v.ie for updates.

Please visit www.3v.ie for more information.

Yup, now dodgy characters can buy their porn on the 'net with a credit card that can't be traced. Others can launder their cash. Plus the bank get a nice 2.5-5% on your top ups Where's Eddie ...

Got this reply back from 3V when i asked about launching nationwide near the end of the month:
    Many thanks for your e-mail.

We are in the pilot phase of introducing the 3V Voucher to the Irish market; therefore, 3V Vouchers are only available in a limited number of shops in Dublin. 3V vouchers are going to be available in retail outlets throughout the Republic of Ireland after the 3V Voucher national launching towards the end of September 2005. Our website will be updated as new retailers offer the 3V Voucher, so watch www.3v.ie for updates to the list of retailers located at the Retailer Locator tab.

Matt Cooper raised both these issues with 3V's rep on the Last Word a few weeks back. He claimed that they had some method of ensuring that the product wouldn't be used on porn sites (though I'd love to have heard more detail on this). He also stated that the id they required to open a 3V account was basically the same as that required to open a bank account.

AFAIK no id is needed, you do need to register your details online or via phone to get the expiry/ccv number. If online you need a mobile so that expiry/ccv number can be sms'd to you. No verification is needed.

All one needs is an unregistered mobile to get the expiry/ccv number.

sry to bump an old thread, but how long does the card last before it expires ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,476 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

The end of the next month after the one you purchase it in. Example you buy a €100 card today, it will expire at the end of January.

It's rediculous. You sholuld be able to buy the vouchers online with your credit card :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,476 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Would that not defeat the purpose of the cards?

Surely you mean with your debit card? If so, I agree entirely.

In Limerick there is a place to "top up" your 3v card. It's "DIMENSION X" in Cecil Street. They charge you 5 Euros "for the card" (as usual) and - !!5 EUROS for their "business". So you pay there 10 Euros if you top up.

Will send a mail to TSB about this!

Deffo, Rip-off merchants. This is the whole mobile phone top-up row all over again.

Seriously, there are more outlets to top up in Limerick than him so go elsewhere.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,476 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

It doesn't but it won't work on any pr0n site that I have tried, says this card type is not accepted.

For those using one of these Credit Cards any bit at all, Just simply don't use them they are obviously a rip-off, Get a Credit Card from your bank, pay Brian Cowen the €40 Credit Card levy. You will surely save the €40 rather than paying all those surcharges. You can then use the net for saving you money on cheapo, clothes, Cds, Printing INK, Lower Priced flights. Just simply pay the balance of what you owe on the Credit Card to the bank in full each month and you won't be barreled with 16.9% Interest either. You can save money and hassle with them, Pay your phone, Internet, Gas and ESB, Cable tv, Sky...need I go on? amalgomate the whole lot into one Credit Card Bill, Make sure you pay it on time and bob's your uncle!
