Oh dear, yet another debate stopper pedantic Pete. This is an internet forum for heaven's sake, it's not as if we're all writing to the Queen.

Well Gerry Ryan was on the radio the other day going on about why no one seemed to be that bothered about the New Orleans situation, I feel he made a grave misassumption about the majority of people, no one gives a **** about anyone outside their immediate life. You all remember when Frank Lampard & Joh Terry were in the **** on September the 12th in a New York bar when they spouted off about how they didn't give a **** about America... The average human psyche never fails to disappoint me

To get really pedantic, there's no plural for the term IQ

    What is going on here?

You are choosing to misquote me on very sensitive topics and somehow I am the one in the wrong?

    I apologize.

Ah ha ha! Pedantic Pete catches himself out. What institute educated you MATE, that you could possibly spell apologise in such a way?

We still use the Queen's english over here.

Oh man. You have no idea how big of a tool you just made of yourself right there.

    Cambridge University Dictionary:

    Apologize, [Show phonetics]verb
to tell someone that you are sorry for having done something that has caused them inconvenience or unhappiness:
I must apologize to Isobel for my lateness.
Trains may be subject to delay on the northern line - we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
She apologized profusely for having to leave at 3.30 p.m.

Sorry Andy, I was referring to Dublin dude, but as the IRA don't represent Ireland, neither do the Arab terrorists represent Muslims.

Dublindude, correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to think 9/11 was part justified by American foreigh policy, I don't. Al Quaida could have attacked military bases or even state buildings, the twin towers for the most part being neither. Similary the IRA (or the LVF) could have stuck to similar targets, neither did.

Apologize is the American English Spelling. :)

Apologise is the British variant. (going from my Merriam Websters which I've handy)

Anyways back on topic and play nice people.

I think the problem is that you said something to the effect that the US deserved the Sept-11 attacks. Deserved them, as in something that all those traders did meant that this terrorism was okay.

You may not have meant it, but it implied that it was somehow acceptable.

I just cannot care about people who have so little self respect for themselves that they let 60% of their ENTIRE population become overweight...

america has done some good things...i dont hate their government...i just dont give a ****. i just hate people who have so little self respect for themselves that they let 60% of their ENTIRE population become overweight...

Who let 60% of the population become overweight? The government? But I thought you said you don't hate them?
so instead of getting up on your high horse and praising america and bashing american haters why dont you look at the other side of the coin and see that america is the most militarily active country in the history of mankind and that they have killed more people and had more full scale wars than any other country in the past 100 years.

The country you are bashing played a pivotal role in defeating Nazism along with the Soviets, the Brits and the other Allies. Their military has helped in situations such as Kosovo in recent times. You've overlooked that though...
get off your throne you gimp.

Insults reflect poorly on you. Be a good lad and read up on what 'ad hominem' attacks are. Cheers.
"americans" is not the same as "america"....personally i cant stand americans....nothing against america...

Find any excuse to justify your anti-American views. Whatever helps you sleep at night. However I suspect you would take offence at people who criticise Irish people but not Ireland which is essentially your warped view.
they havent exactly been making friends with a lot of people recently...i mean look at the kyoto agreement in its original form..one of the most industrial countries on this planet decides that it doesnt want to limit its emissions...even though we all have to deal with their sh!t spewing all over the globe...sounds fair eh?

But didn't you say "personally i cant stand americans....nothing against america..." yet the Kyoto agreement is to do with the government and you earlier said "i dont hate their government".

You're a bigot and a hypocrite rolled up into one. I'm impressed.

I don't think there are known figures. There is much controversy on the matter. I do know that in a poll conducted before the war, most Iraqis welcomed the invasion.

I also know that it was insurgents who beheaded Ken Bigley and murdered Irish-born citizen Margaret Hassan, not Americans.

I take on board the opinions of others. I wouldn't have expected a difference of opinion though on a non-political thread which merely stated that the American people and the nation should not be on the end of abuse over anger at the American administration. Apparently bigotry can be justified though.

I knew of course that such views were to be expected.

As for a scathing attack on yourself, I will not do anything of the sort. As you say, we're all entitled to our opinions. Perhaps now though so too are the Iraqis and we all know what country to thank for that, don't we?

I'm not aware of the Americans 'executing' anybody. As far as I know they are imprisoning POWs. I know the insurgents have executed people alright, including an Irish-born aid worker.
    djmarkus wrote:

Me personally? The removal of an evil, vicious dictator in Saddam Hussein was, in my eyes, warranted and also the chance of freedom, justice and democracy for the people of Iraq who have been oppressed for so long.

    From WorldNetDaily:
We have no right to attack Saddam because our aid made him powerful and he once functioned as our ally.

Not true, and not even vaguely relevant. During the Cold War, Iraq was a client state of the Soviet Union, not the United States, and Saddam has always been outspoken in his Marxist, anti-Western fulminations. It's true that the U.S. foreign-policy establishment tilted toward Iraq in its bloody war against Iran, but only because the Islamic fanaticism of the Iranians represented a more direct, immediate danger to the United States. Suggesting that fleeting cooperation some 20 years ago means that we have no right to oppose Iraq today makes no sense whatever. We provided massive military and financial support to Stalin during his desperate battle against Hitler. Does that mean that we had no moral right to oppose the aggressive designs of the Soviet Union when it turned against us within months of the conclusion of the world war?

    D'oh!

    Definition of ad hominem:

"An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin, literally "argument to the man"), is a logical fallacy that involves replying to an argument or assertion by addressing the person presenting the argument or assertion rather than the argument itself or an argument pointing out an inconsistency between a view expressed by an individual and the remainder of his or her beliefs."

If its controversial, why are you using it as a point in your arguement/opinion?

But can you see why people have a negitive opinion on the U.S., the New Orleans disaster and their slow response in helping people who are dropping dead because Bush is pissing about with politics, Bill Clinton fundraisers and not doing what should be done
