    ... with no dialogue.

Basically I'm looking for something to watch that does have an actual intelligent storyline but that is all about what you see and hear throughout and where the mood is set almost exclusively by the musical score or OST rather than the 'acting'.

Now when I say 'no dialogue' it doesn't have to be THAT strict a guideline. Your suggestions can of course have SOME dialogue in them .. but essentially I'm looking for good movies that are not dependant on it. Stuff along the lines of 2001ASpaceOdyssey, TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly, AmericanGrafitti is what I'm thinking about.

Hmm I don't know if I've described well enough what I'm looking for but I guess it's a start. Thanks and looking forward to your suggestions!

Not joking at all, but look older than that too... the original Nosferatu as a bad example.

I was about to recommend The Good, the Bad and The Ugly, but you said it :)

Next for me would be:Vanishing Point
It is an awesome movie, it is imo the greatest car-chase movie of all time. The storyline isn't all that intelligent, but the visual aspect and action are breathtaking.

If you liked Good Bad Ugly, i would immediately also recommend:High Plains Drifter

Probably saw it, but once upon a time in America is very good, should be able to rent it out.
By far. Ten out of Ten.

Thats as hard one - I think For a Few Dollars more is the best western with little dialogue.
If your talking about visuals and soundtrack combined
conan is fantastic and also the Mission, but they both have lots of dialogue, brilliant dialogue though.

    Spielberg's debut Duel perhaps?

Hana-bi, quite possibly Takeshi Kitano's best film, very stark minimalism when it comes to the dialogue, and he creates such deep characters. Absolute must see.

Stone age stuff so no dialogue, only grunting. :)
    Actually a brilliant film!
    Won an Oscar!

    try Metropolis (1927).
silent movie with a great score. there are dialogue cards or whatever they're called, but not too many.
it relies on stunning visuals and great scenes to carry the story

I'll have to second Metropolis and hana-bi

Make sure you get Metropolis with the original score. I used to have this tape of it with a really dodgy 80's electronic score. Absolute ****box.

and also the original Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Lawrence of Arabia just for the best introduction scene of any character
    in cinema history (Omar Sharif)

Throne Of Blood is quite an atmospheric film with little dialogue, if I recall correctly. I seem to remember Blade Runner as having fairly minimal dialogue also... But you should look no further than the Sergio Leone spagetthi westerns; chock-full of atmosphere, with really stirring musical scores. The only one that hasn't been mentioned yet is A Fistful Of Dollars.
    How about "Cast away" (sp)?

Duel and Metropolis - Both excellent calls. Evil Dead 2 perhaps?

    How about:

    The Shining
    2046
    Suspiria

Ah yes Shining is quality. Anything by Kubrick is quality, although he can be an acquired taste
