I'm trying to get at the radio, but can't get the front panel off. According to the manual, there's a button to push (it's a small button in the top right of the front panel) that allows you to take it off, but pressing this button has no effect. Is there something else I have to do? Engine on/off?

Slide something in under the radio cover the tilt up upwards a small bit and the cover should come off with ease. The bottom of the cover had a little grove on it to help you get it out. Never fails for me.

Had the same problem myself. If you look under the number 1 preset button and the scan button you'll see slots for the flat type removal keys.
I used the keys I got with my old pioneer head unit. It took a bit of fiddling but she came out. Can't remember the radio model I had but it began with an A.
The manual gave no instructions of how to remove the whole radio, only that stupid little round thing over the function selection buttons.
