Anyone know yet whether Smart have managed to implement the new 256k upload speed that they advertised on August's phone bill?

I applied for it a week ago. Promised I'd have it in a day or so, and I'd get a confirmation phone call and an email. Still waiting...

Ah seriously!? I'd love an upload speed upgrade but I'm with bt. Anyone reckon they might follow suit?

Not possible unless eircom do the upgrades, and this is VERY unlikely given that eircom are scared shítless of the threat of VoIP and prefer to ignore the problem
rather than try and confront it head on!!!!

Unless eircom can cash in on VoIP by launching a service to take advantage of it...we could be stuck with 128kb for some time indeed!!!

Sure if they ignore VoIP maybe it will go away :)

Should be fun when NTL come out with VoIP/Internet over the one line, I know a few people that will drop Eircom straight away.
But I'm sure when that happens Eircom will make porting exisiting PSTN line numbers VERY difficult indeed (even though they allow it now and it takes 4-6 weeks)

I've been waiting ~3 weeks for it. Looking forward to having a pathetic upload speed instead of an utterly pathetic upload speed :)

Well, I got my upload increased today. Now uploading on average at 266kbps according to http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed/

They also decided to give me a bonus.....a free decrease in my download speed. Pulling 700/800kbps instead of my usual 2Mbps. This despite recycling the router a few times and restarting the PC...

EDIT: Rang support. Hope to hear back tomorrow.

I've got mine as well today!

    Download speeds of 551kbps! (irishisptest.com)

    On adslguide.org.uk

    Downstream 1774 Kbps (221.8 KB/sec) 1915 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 265 Kbps (33.1 KB/sec) 286 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Must be some issues with irishisptest then

Odd. I checked my line with http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp and got a different result:

    Downstream 1911 Kbps (238.9 KB/sec) 2063 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 268 Kbps (33.5 KB/sec) 289 Kbps (inc. overheads)

    Maybe http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed/ has an issue?

Thanks to Garfield for his assistance. Top notch as usual!

irishisptest is hosted by blacknight, afaik they don't peer at INEX and use COLT to connect, if any of those pipes are congested it will mess up with the ist result. So best time to run that test it early morning or late into the evening, ie now onwards.

If you could get anyone who peers with smart (or even smart themselves) to host a speed test you should get a more accurate result.

Say, where's the details of this upgrade? How do I apply for it / is it automatic?

http://www.digiweb.ie/broadband_metro_index.asp?i=80&i2=81&i6=90&zzz=hm assuming you are within 10km of finglas or 3 rock and have line of sight to their antennas.

    €35 for 3072/512 (30gb cap 40:1) or €90 for 4096/1024 (60gb cap 20:1) inc. phone line rental and a few other bits.

they do a 6mbps service too but it's over €250 per month. more for businesses tbh.

Someone referred to it being mentioned with the latest bill. Garfield mentioned it a little while ago in posts here. It costs 5 euro extra per month and I sure if you ring Smart they will organise it for you.

I've pointed this out before. I consistently get a lot better speeds with adslguide than I do irishisptest.com, particularly upload speeds. But I'm with IBB so I can push the upload a bit harder than 256kbps...

What did the upgrade in upload speeds cost ya?
