After passing my bike test I mailed my licence app and prov licence in to the local tax office.. I come home today to find a letter from Dublin City Council - woot i think - my shiny new licences!!(full bike and prov car) Anyhoos I open the envelope and there's a full B licence inside?!?! I should have gotten a full A for the bike along with a prov B... Should I try to be jammy, report the 'bike' licence as lost or something to get a new one and poket the full car licence or come clean?!?! I'm doing car lessons at the moment and have no intention of going onto the roads myself until my instructor tells me I'm ready!!

Id send it back or what ever. There may have been a printing fault and you may not be registered as having a full licence so if you ever get stopped and they call in the licence it will not register and you will be done for having a fake licence.

Better safe than very sorry ie having a record.

[Ignore this bit: Keep the A and] Send the B back. It'll be something to laugh about when your doing your car test.

"You know its funny, I got handed a full B license a few weeks ago when they were giving me my A. I sent it back though."

And congradulations of passing the bike test. Now, you've got two years on a restricted bike and then its on to bigger and better things. =]

The didn't send me the A licence thou saobh_ie just the full B! They've also decided that I don't need to wear glasses while I drive too!! I know I should give it back but in theory I could be driving for the next 50 years without having an accident and getting my licence checked!!

Yeah I went back in and edited it out as soon as I posted... then you posted so I edited it back in lol.

Just to confirm this. Send the B back girl, get your full A. You might not be caught but if you are its going to be a whole lot of bother regards insurance and all sorts.

When you renew most likely things will be as they should be, you are not safe in a car..this isn't a nice mistake..if you havent driven a car before you might kill ppl if you do without instruction.
As always in life, honesty is the right way, call up and explain the mistake.

    lol!
My dad is going to go up to the tax office tomorrow for me since I'm stuck in work. I think the guy I spoke to on the phone before I applied was a muppet cos he told me all I need was the full licence app and they would just send one prov and one full licence..he said I didn't need to fill out a form for the prov...:confused::confused:

    Congrats, nice one :)

And yeah, you know you're doing the right thing. Get rid of the B and get the A you're entitled to. Getting your B will be easy anyway with a good bit of A experience

The naughty person inside me would try to exchange the full B for a licence from another country, say the UK. You'd never be caught then. That would be bold though, so don't do it.

MAJOR TEMPTATION to keep it or what !

    Better give it back !!

It was their mistake but could be your misfortune when the truth inevitably emerges at an inconvenient time in about twenty years from now !! :)
