Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vodafone 3G connect padding packets?

I use a Vodafone 3G connect card when i'm on call, and there's something seriously dodgy about it.

Last night I was ssh'd to a machine for ten minutes, and I checked three pages on skynews, and it tells me i've used nearly 4MB! 4MB in ten minutes? The skynews pages appeared to be 1.5MB of usage (I was watching the counter on the Vodafone software).

This sounds like a figure that's just been plucked out of the sky!

It looks to me like they're padding data packets just to make more money out of customers. I don't pay for it myself but jeez....what a rip off.

I surfed using my mobile as a GPRS modem on O2 some time ago, just checking email and boards and a few other sites and also got through what I thought was a huge amount of data considering the pages I view are usually mostly text, so I wouldnt be surprised if all networks are doing it.

Personally I find the cost of GPRS a bloody rip off...in the UK you can get 1GB a month of data for about £100 on O2. Over here it can be as much as €7.50 per MB if you are unfamiliar with the charges.
