    The Short Revolution Storms Dublin…

International short film label Future Shorts finally launches in Dublin.

Future Shorts, the largest short film network in Europe, delivers the most eclectic, electric and explosive short film from around the globe. From Morocco to Moscow and back through Mexico, prepare yourself for surreal satire, animation, social commentary and musical abstractions.

Sourcing the most diverse and raw shorts, each monthly screening incorporates an international buffet of quality cinematic experimentation - from the aching, esoteric beauty of Daniel Askill’s ‘We Have Decided Not To Die,’ the scathing satire of Tom Puttnam’s ‘Tom Hits His Head’, and the stylized technical perfection of Chris Cunningham’s ‘All Is Full Of Love ‘.

Although showcasing established names such as Michel Gondry and Vincent Cassel, Future Shorts aims to provide a public platform for outstanding shorts and the filmmaking talent behind them. It acts as a forum for the emerging talent to display their goods.

Propelling the short into the future demands a nod to the past. The Future Shorts experience embraces the community spirit of earlier cinema and each event is a medley of music, mayhem and madness. Think 50’s vintage, rollergirls and burlesque intimacy. Shake with alcohol and serve up with some raw sounds…Rather than a film night, Future Shorts is an event.

Future Shorts is hitting Dublin on the first Sunday of every month, beginning October 2nd. The glammed-up grime of the Belvedere, on Denmark Street, will play host for the evening, providing an atmosphere of 50’s nostalgia with retro mischief. The beautiful and baffling acoustics of the Red Squares will continue the event well into the witching hour…

“Future Shorts aims to do for short film what MTV has done for the music video”, comments Fabien Riggall, founder of the Future Shorts label. “We filter out the best of the best from around the world, and provide the venue and atmosphere for audiences to come and enjoy.

“Our network events are much more than sitting in a darkened room watching a screen in silence; they are about being challenged and inspired by a collection of hand-picked, brilliant slices of visual entertainment”.

"A refreshingly eclectic approach to the art of short film, films range from the bracingly hilarious to the mysteriously poignant."
    Evening Standard

"Seemingly random but certainly very strong collection of recent short hits"
    Time Out London

"Future Shorts is bent on proving that the short film is not just for people with short attention spans but a genre unto itself a little something for every taste."
    Kulture Flash

How about writing a slightly more informative post as opposed to spamming multiple forums with this poorly written press release?

Is Future Shorts looking for submissions from local film makers? Or is this a purely commercial endevour?

yeah sorry about the spamming, but im sure there are people in the different sections that dont look in here that would be interested.

As far as I know they will be looking for submissions from local film makers, this is the spirit of the festival, obviously you would know this if you had read the 'poorly written press release'.

For now though its all about getting the word out there, and trying to gain some support for a worthy cause - a platform for independent film makers/animators/video artists to show their work, because god knows RTE arent going to help.

I amn't affiliated with the project, I am merely a messenger. I would say keep an eye on the website or send an email to Jennie- mcranty@gmail.com for further details regarding submissions. This project is still in its early stages, so help the independant film community and come down for a look on Oct 2nd.

    :)

Doesn't look like they're looking for submissions from local film-makers alas.

It'll be interesting to see how they price it - more fodder for Ripoff Republic I'll bet.

    From the Edinburgh show:
    THE LEFT BANK
    37 GUTHRIE STREET
    7:30PM DOORS | 8:30PM FILMS
    £3.50 ON THE DOOR

So, using my handy currency conversion dashboard widget (because I'm worth it), this equates to 5.176 euro. Anyone like to make a prediction what they'll charge here?

    10 euro?
    15 euro?

I know it's the height of narcissism to reply to your own post, but here are mechanics of submitting your work to FS:
    HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM

To show your film at a Future Shorts screening, we need you to:

    - Download the submission form (in Microsoft Word format)

    - Please send it with a labelled copy of your film on VHS OR DVD to: Future Shorts, 34-35 Berwick Street, London W1F 8RP

    - If you have any questions, please email info@futureshorts.com

Looks reasonable enough except for the insistence of using M$Word format files. Why it can't be done as plain text is beyond me. It's not fcuking rocket science you know, web forms / emails / carrier pigeons.....

It seems like a lot of these shorts are quite old. I've seen a far few of them already.

What format are they being shown on?

Are there are new shorts being shown?
