Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A client wants a website designed and he wants it to be able to accept online payments. What are the different options for doing this?

Having used both, in my experience Paypal is definately cheaper to use, but their IPN interface can cause complications if the database structure isnt right.

Realex is more expensive but is definatley easier to use.

Basically you pay for what you get.

what about http://www.2checkout.com/ ? Is it any good? Is this a similiar thing to realex...

I've used Realex, WorldPay and PayPal for various projects..

When I was using Realex found that their admin system was a bit limited (can't change callback page etc) and that WorldPay's customer service pretty much sucks..

Recently started using PayPal and like it so think I'll be using that from now on.

We've been using them for about a year.
It does what it says on the tin, but isn't the cheapest of solutions.

You cannot compare it to Realex. Realex is a gateway service for internet merchants ie. you have to have an internet merchant account with your bank, whereas 2CO is 3rd party payment processor

I have used both realex and paypal. both are excellent services. If you have money to spend realex is the way to go, but paypal is free and incredibly easy to set up!

    hi

I have integrated all the systems but now am looking at 2checkout.

Does it allow for the client to stay on the site or are they redirecte off to 2checkout to make their payment like in paypal and worldpay.

the reason I ask is becuase onece the client goes off to the processors site to make the payment you loose about 40% of the sales at that point.

    cheers
    sean

With 2checkout you have to go to a page on their site to finalise the payment, which isn't ideal

    hi

thanks for the reply. It is really a pain. I have investigated worldpay doing a remote acceptance of the cards but the security requirments they need for this to be acceptable to them are crazy. for some small shops operating from domestic addresses this is not a goer unless you are going to fire proof your house, introduce security screening and give your wife a swipe card for entry to the building. ;-)

there is a company in malta I have been approached about called endeavor and they process credit cards but I have not seen them used by any one here. Does any body know about them or havethey tried them.

    cheers and happy new year,

    Sean

They're used by the shops hosted on buy.ie (eg corkcity FC, peoplesrepublic of cork)

I have been using PAYPAL and 2CHECKOUT for Years now. When PP was not available in Ireland, it was a real hassle and VERY annoying when looking for support.

Its a lot better now and my account has not been suspended for no reason since the change. www.paypalsucks.com still has some horror stories for Irish customers.

2checkout is where my loyalty lies. They have helped me reverse several fraudulent chargebacks and never once blocked my account. Their fees are high, but if you make a decent bit of money, its worth it for the excellent support and payment schedule.

Weekly payments are a blessing for 2co users.

I also dabbled with ikobo.com for a few months last year. I have never dealt with a worse payment processor. Or a worse company for that matter.

guys im trying to set up a once off subscription payment. i have registered a business account with paypal. i have created the magic button with paypal. i have set up a user registration process. finally i want to charge the user a fee to register.

the paypal site says the user details are passed through the transaction using POST. does it matter what i name the form fields? ie ater payment can i just reference the form fields as if the user didnt leave for the paypal site.

also is there anyway of testing this. im limited to just my own credit card which i cant make paments to myself. yes i tried...

I suggest you read all the IPN documentation here:

    https://www.paypal.com/ipn

ou are right, it does use the post method, and using preset variables in the IPN you can reference your form fields. However, the IPN script and other scripts available there can take care of all that for you.

You said you want to offer a "One time subscription payment". That kind of defeats the purpose of a subscription. Can you explain in more detail what you are trying to do?

Although it may be out of your price range, and maybe too heavy for the particular task, you may want to take a look at www.amember.com

I use if for a lot of my sites, as expensive as it is, but it is one truly amazing piece of software. It is perfect for digital downloads and is also great for charging for access to aprticular areas of a site. The good thing is that it has MANY payment gateways IPNs already integrated, and they do the install for free, so you don't have to worry about a thing.

Even though it is too bulky for your task, it may give you some ideas. Hope that helps.

If you need any help with any IPN issues, PM me, I can help.

does the amember pro support multiple currencies out of the box?

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭cianuro

    Yes it does.
Their site allows you to download an encrypted demo.

If you have an operational company in the EU and looking for affordable alternate payment solution, you can check it with Chronopay, they can offer you a 3PP as well as an own merchant account, and a virtual terminal at no extra costs. With their 3rd party solution there are no monthly fees and no set up fees.
