Pair gain on the line?

Friend of mine is very interested in getting bb but his line fails the test. He lives in Clontarf and tells me that he remembers an Eircom guy saying to him some time ago 'the lines around here are too old for bb'!!

Is there any easy way to find out if there is a pair gain on the line? How have people got this information from Eircom in the past?

A contact/friend inside eircom is about the only way to find out as Eircom themselves wont tell you. But AFAIK if their test shows the line is paired it shows an "amber" result and an engineer is sent out.
