    Lads,

I bought a GIANT hybrid about 3 months ago. I went on a few long cycles with a friend who has a racer, and at times he ended up almost a mile ahead of me, so im switching over.

I plan on trading in the hybrid, to get some cash off the racer, hybrid is worth 300euro, so i guess ill get around 200 for it, and i have around 400 to put towards the racer.

Any advice of what kind of racer i could pick up for 600euro???

if you like the giants maybe got for one of the OCR range, I think the 3 is in that price range, or maybe the 4. otherwise the specialized allez always gets good reviews.

otherwise maybe but tri bars on your hybrid, or skinny tyres if they are a bit chunky.
or maybe go for long spins with someone who doesn't leave you a mile behind, not much of a mate!!

I agree with Daveym,Not really the hybrid more your friend.Have a hybrid and can keep up with most of them on the racers.

no the racers are much faster
its NOT your friends who are better cyclists
the difference in performance between a hybrid and a racer is similiar to that of a sports car and an MPV!
    get a specialised alllez
    absolutely fantastic bike
€800 to buy new, worth every penny though
you will NOT get a better racer for the money

it depends on the hybrid, some of the giant and trek hybrids are EXACTLY
the same as the road bikes except for the flat bar so you are just plain wrong.

I know plenty of people who race triathlons on hybrids with tri-bars and have no problems keeping up with people on race bikes.

thats not true they have different geometry, they may appear Exactly, however the differences are there
if you are in favoru of a straight bar my advice is to buy a specialised allez and convert the drops to a streight bar ;)

It is true, most hybrids are as you say but you can buy the 2 trek entry level road bikes, the trek 1000 and the 1200 in a flat bar version....

    Right lads,

thanks, still think ill get a racer. As for discussing which is faster. I had a go on my buddies racer and peddling "flat out" i got 39mph down the same hill that i can only get 35mph on my hybrid, so i think the racer is definately faster.

Apart from the speed and comfort, one of the reasons i want a racer is that im not gone on the "look" of the hybrid, racer looks WAY cooler.

Im going to check out 2 shops in town and see whats available in my price range (600 euro).

is there anything i should look out for when buying it? As all i really know for sure about bikes is how to peddle.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated
