Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why have the writers decided to make him the hero? His episodes aren't interesting. Perhaps they lead somewhere.

Will the fat black woman not get an episode, she would probable be more interesting.

Probably because first impression is Doctor = man of power = respect

I think Jack's story could get interesting..... Where did he get his tattoo? Its not in any of the flashbacks so far....

I agree that his story has been boring so far. Maybe they should have killed him off in episode 1 as they originally intended..... However Jack vs.
    Locke
in series 2 could be very very good.

Does anyone like Jack? He seems like an awful prick that people allow run the show because it saves them hassle, but I don't think too many people look up to him.

To the OP - this thread should have an 'IRL' stamp on it as its easy to spoil things for UK viewers.

Jack is by far my least fav character - the goodie two shoes thing just doesnt sit well at all with me.

    spoiler [UK] :
When he was spineless the night b4 his wedding & a blubbering mess during the ceremony all I could of was "FFS - be a man dude!!"

As for his tatoo, maybe he had a stint in the army as a medic, perhaps needing to get away from the guilt of friends & family for you doing know what - in which case it'd be a cool lost-esque link if he had some sort of unknowing run-in with a certain member of the republican guard! :D

who says that jack is the hero... just because he is in the limelight a lot doesn't make him the hero...

just look at episode 4, all the emphasis is on luke, but its han who saves the day.

I think I've a lot of empathy for Jack. He's the one trying to be sensible while everyone else either slacks off or causes problems. He didn't ask to be their leader and he doesn't pretend to have all the answers, just no one else was willing to step up to the plate.

We also don't know how his wedding panned out. It seems to me he felt obliged to marry the girl in question. When Boone tells him that he's "letting him off the hook" I've a funny feeling we'll be seeing a flashback where his spouse says the same.

That's just a hunch mind and it's a pretty longshot but Lost has proved very good at setting up one perception of a character (Jack is a little unlikeable) and then knocking it on the head.

what the hell is this "let all hate Jack" crap. loads of people say it just because he's the good guy. fair enough he's no Locke but he's still one of the best characters there

Its because he is a goody two shoes, and nobody loves a do-gooder.

Jack gets a lot of criticism, at the start I thought he was the best character in the series. But he's grating a bit on my nerves lately, I prefer sawyer or Jin now- both quality complex individuals.

Jack could be the horrible surgen that we come to expected not the hero surgen that we come to expect. Perhaps Jack turn his father in to save his own skin. We have only seen jacks side of the story. Remember Sun And Jin's episodes.

ya suppose but maybe thats what they want. hopefully twill turn out that he has a really bad side and that shows coz alot are trusting him now. remember when Kate wanted to tell him what she done and he said something about what happened before is forgotten now. he has plenty to hide!

We've also seen his father's, albeit through Sawyer's eyes...

I to empathise with Jack. He's trying to make the best of a bad situation and keep everyone safe. They all turned to him for help. He even tried to avoid being put in charge. Unlike that little
    Bitch
Boone who tried twice to forceably put him self in the role of savior. First when He took the gun and attemted to take the clip despite the fact that he went on anti gun marches. Then again when he stole all the water. The reluctant hero portrayed all through out history. As for his tatoo. I don't think that Jack was in the army. It's possible but unlikely. But I agree with whoever said that Jack's recollection of the the Botched surgery is what really happened. None of the other memories have been sugar coated to make the main character seem more appealing. Anyways. Jack's atleast got me in his corner.

? whats locke been annoying about, the man is a fúckin legend, jack has been going mental trying to be the hero and getting nowhere, although locke got boon killed(which wasnt his fault) has been one of the sanest people on the island so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Narcissus

Well not exactly annoying, but just his obsession with destiny/the island was a bit strange in the last few episodes

yeah i kinda know what you mean, but i think hes right in the actions hes taken so far, hes thinking outside the box, looking at everything from a different angle, which is something i think jack is incapable of at the moment.

i think jack will cop on to himself and realise the true situation that they are in (which is i think that they are in a place that science alone wont save them). but he has to stop trying too hard, he has to stop trying to be the boss of everyone and instead lead everyone.
