According to a news item on the RTE webiste about NTR
Wind energy profits fell by €2m to €3m while waste profits dropped from €6.3m to just under €5m. The broadband division lost €4m.

Since Eircom and NTR are both losing money you'd have to ask who, if anyone, is making money in the scramble for BB customers?

Would it not be usual for massive losses in large roll outs, for the first few years, though?

Eircom aside, because they're figures could mean anything, all the other players (bar BT Ireland which is only really starting to throw any shapes recently) are small companies, which I would have expected to have significant loses in the first 2-3 years, for any decent roll out / investment in network.
