    From the Reg

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/12/bt_broadband_trials/
Trials are due to begin this month at four sites in Yorkshire and five in Northern Ireland with BT installing its kit in street cabinets nearer to punters' homes and businesses.

Eircom install these cabs as well but the standard model cannot take a dslam at present :(

In the UK today there is a DSL access gap
around 100,000 households mostly in rural areas are still without high speed net < meaning DSL SB>

In Ireland only 60% of households <max> can get DSL , out of 1.4m or so .

500,000 punters simply cannot get it because its nowhere near them thanks to Eircom, the number who cannot get it because their lines are crap is probably another 25% of the 900,000 who can nominally get it....maybe 200,000 on top of the 500,000

Thats not to say that I do not sympathise with the 100,000 British Households all the same , good luck lads :)

Thats nothing when compared to here.

Large areas of towns and citys in ireland have issue with voltage dropping in cheap cables used.(Eircom engineer told me)

Some of the areas affected have only been cabled in the past 3 years ands are less than 2 miles from the exchange.

Im also aware of areas that have difficulty 4 miles from the exchange that have problems getting anything over 20k/s on standard dialup.

Another pat on the back for Eircom welll done and the Comm Reg well done to you two.

    Thats progress!
