Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

SHAMROCK Rovers' boss Roddy Collins spoke yesterday of his terrifying ordeal after he and his wife Caroline were confronted by a "frenzied" loyalist mob while driving home through east Belfast.

The brother of former boxing champion Steve Collins had just driven off a ferry from Stranraer in his Dublin-registered car and was heading for the motorway when he encountered a gang of more than 100 people, some carrying baseball bats, hammers and iron bars.

And he told how he "put the boot down" to escape after making a split second decision to swerve through a six-foot gap to avoid the mob.

While in Scotland, Collins said he had watched the TV footage of the rioting unfold on the streets of Belfast and had made up his mind on the ferry on the way back that he would "put my boot to the floor" if they were confronted by a mob.

He told Joe Duffy's Liveline programme that after driving off the ferry on Sunday he swept around a corner near a housing estate in east Belfast and saw about 100 people blocking the street.

"There were fellows with hoods, scarves, baseball bats, hammers, there was one fellow with an axe. They were throwing stuff at the cars, bottles, stones, bike wheels and frames - anything to get you to stop."

A woman aged 24 or 25 was about six feet away shaking a claw hammer at him.

"She was 'effin' into the window, the hatred and vengeance was unbelieveable. The fellow with the axe was just standing there with a scarf over his face, another fellow with a baseball bat, fellows with sticks and lumps of wood, a fellow with a big iron bar. There was rocks, bottles, bits of bicycles and everything getting thrown out in front of the cars."

Mr Collins, who spent a number of years living in Belfast, said that in the past he had never seen anything as dangerous as what he confronted on Sunday.

Did Roddy mention the disgraceful behaviour and scenes by many of his Shamrock Rovers fans on Friday night on the show? Bet not.

Not condonning what happened but it was not many - it was a dozen idiots at most and already six of them have been banned from Rovers games.

Eh, try three dozen and you are getting closer...

Heard Roddy on Joe Duffy yesterday, he was lucky. Later on there was a caller about the Rovers fans but conveniently Roddy had gone. Not that he is in any way responsible for the behaviour of the Rovers fans.

The club have to be responsible for their fans behaviour at matchs and after them !

A crowd (12-40 depending on who you are talking to) of Rovers "fans" rushed the Shels fans after the game and got stuck in too. One too many of these incidents tbh...

After the match a small group of idiots who sadly claim to be Rovers 'fans' charged the gate the Shels fans were coming out of. A quick-thinking steward closed the gate in time, avoiding what could have been a very messy situation.

Don't really want to get into an argument over the numbers of these morons, but 36 is way off the mark.

Completely OT but Eamonn Zayed's Aalesund lost 4-1 tonight against fellow strugglers Molde. Didn't want to post a thread on this on its own.
