If their old enough to throw rocks and petrol bombs at the police then they're old enough to have their heads clubed in by police tring to defend themselves.

You have it all wrong - they're just misunderstood, they're not causing mischief - they're in training for the 'Para-Olympics' Molotov Cocktail throwing is a legitimate event - i blame the lack of training facilities. ;)

The PSNI are hamstrung in these situations - neither side want the police to have the power to go in cracking skulls and really storing order, becuase both sides want the ability to riot in the future! Could you imagine a riot like this taking place in Paris and the police holding back? No, you'd have dozens of dead rioters and most of us would agree 'good riddance'...please please let Irish unity remain forever a dream and never horrible reality, when a part of your body is cancerous, you cut it off, not clasp it tighter and hope everything works out for the best!

Whilst I always enjoy reading the rants I never have the time to post a reply but feel I have to pass comment here.
I was in Belfast this weekend and spend every few weekends up there. Thankfully I didn't run into any toruble while the madness kicked off.

The most high profile news for Norn Ireland in recent weeks has been the UVF and LVF feuding going on. In any other civilised country this would be called criminal gang warfare, i.e. its all about drugs, turf, extortion, protection, power and the protagonists are blinged up, blacked out window car driving gangsters. 4 dead to date I think - let 'em at it.

The rioting in BFS this weekend is symptomatic of a much bigger social / political / economic malaise that Unionists are going to be shouting about for a while. In a nutshell the Unionist community are reacting like spoilt brats and throwing all their toys out of the pram. For years they had it good: the RUC (OUR police - 1 in 12 Catholic); Harland & Woulfe (OUR jobs - no Catholics please); Housing (OUR houses - not for Catholics or just stick them in the ****tiest possible areas).

The Unionists now feel that they are being betrayed and left behind while a groundswell (as they see it) of support in Government, public opinion and public policy is mounting behind all things Catholic. This of course is boll*x and is the reaction of a spoilt section of the community that now needs to face up to reality that there is no one religion, political party or persona that can bully and dominate the entire population of Northern Ireland

The tide is slowly turning in that the Catholic community in the six counties is nowadays more progressive, better educated and is (largely) more willing to move on than can be said of the Protestant/Unionist majority.

im my opinion it all comes down to education.i have read many reports on the BBC stating that many analysts also believe this factor to be a major issue.prods living in working class neighbourhoods such as the shankill have always had a culture of working in heavy industry eg ironworks, shipbuilding.catholics on the other hand have always valued bettering oneself in university to a greater extent(similar to indians in england).now that these industries are gone, young working class protestants find themselves unemployed and frustrated.they lash out at the "taigs",the police, the goverment=anything.
they are goin to have to realise that this industry isnt comin back.they are going to have to change their culture.otherwise we will see more of the barbaric behaviour shown by these illiterate uneducated poor losers.

Your right on one score they did take their retirement packages from the Northern Bank alright but they also sold out..Real Republicans will continue the fight for Irish Unity of that you can be certain. ;)

why are they fighting? who are they fighting? do they not realise that tony blair would literally drop to his knees and praise jesus if he could get rid of northern ireland? the unfortunate fact is that the majority of people in the north want to stay in the union. that is the sole reason its still in it. when the minority lose a referendum and pick up guns and make the majority do it their way democracy is replaced by anarchy.

i think the north should be reunited but by a majority vote, not by the minority pointing guns at everyone til they get their way. thats the way of thugs and bullies, not rational people
