    Any suggestions?

You could try alinux (used to be called peanut)
You could try Damn Small Linux

The Knoppix CD offers can install itself to HD where aptget will work as in debian.

What worked for me on a laptop with a lower spec than yours was Slax, which supported all the hardware perfectly.

In fact with only 64Mb of memory slax is what I'd recommend.

Damn Small linux is ideal. It can also be installed to harddrive. It has a very tight X server, and this will leave
some more memory available, which you'll need with only 64MB.

However, if you want to give the laptop a job rather than use it as a workstation, take a look at the Itty Bitty Linux Server or go with plain Debian, a minimal install, and use apt-get to install just the services you want.

Google featherlinux... it's Knoppix stripped down.

The CD image is around 200MB

Also you could format the HDD to FAT32 (so you can save stuff) and run Ubuntu or Knoppix (or any Live CD) from the CD. Very handy, was using Ubuntu's live cd when I didn't have a HDD in my pc (bought all the bits seperately and I was very impatient)
