Just want to start a simple enough saving scheme, small amounts monthly. Where is the best place to go? I've currently an account at BOI but that's not the best for saving, or good at all.

So, what are my options? Credit Union? Where else?

    Hey,

I'm in the same boat as you! I use a Rabo savings account with my BOI current account. I transfer money across with online banking whenever i have some spare cash lying about, it works for me. The rabo account is easy to set up and all you have to do is phone BOI to set up the transfer thing, after that it is all online.

What's the deal with it? What makes it better than the rest of the offers out there?

It has got a good interest rate (for a deposit account, around 3%). AIB offer something similar with their online savings accounts.

<scarastic>AIB wow 3%</scarastic> I've been getting that on my standard credit union "account" for years, with penalty free instant access, its not any special offer its always like that (with some minor annual percentage fluctuations) no need to even read the AIB spool..

    *shrugs*

Same but my credit union account is damn awkward because a) it's not where I live atm and b) I can't access it online etc. The credit union is good but can be damn awkward if you move home or require access to money when not at home for some reason, like being in college.

I have a Rabodirect account too and have it linked to my AIB current account. No problems to report and I like the Digipass gizmo security thing. You can't be too careful online these days.
