Last weekend of DART Upgrade Works on Southside this Weekend by Media & P.R.

DART UPGRADE WORKS ON SOUTHSIDE - FINAL WEEKEND THIS WEEKEND – SOUTHSIDE DART, ROSSLARE SERVICES AFFECTED

    Bus services doubled on Southside

Normal weekend services have resumed on Northside

Iarnród Éireann is delighted to remind customers that this weekend (17th-18th September) is the final weekend of DART Upgrade works at southside stations at weekends.

The works affect DART services between Pearse and Greystones, Rosslare Intercity services and Gorey/Arklow commuter services on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays.

    Southside works – Service impact

Despite the major engineering works involved, Iarnród Éireann are ensuring that commuters will not be inconvenienced Monday to Friday. Bus arrangements for customers on the various routes at weekends are detailed below.

The following service arrangements will apply this weekend:

    DART Services
Normal Weekend services will operate between Pearse and Howth/Malahide.
There will be no weekend DART services between Pearse and Greystones

Major enhanced bus operation on Southside

Extensive additional Dublin Bus services will operate along routes adjacent to the DART line at weekends to allow customers travel between the city centre and southside stations.

Additional services will operate on the following routes:

    7, 7A, 45, 45A, 46A, 59, 84, 145, 184.

    Dublin Bus will provide:

    - A 100% bus increase on routes that operate in proximity to the DART line

    - An additional 35,000 seats each weekend

    - Over 1,500 trips on the above routes

    - A five minute service on the Merrion Road

    - A dedicated shuttle service from city centre to Ballsbridge, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey

    - A 15-minute service on Route 145 between the City Centre and Bray

Rosslare Intercity and Gorey Commuter Service
Rosslare Intercity and Gorey/Arklow Commuter services will operate to and from Greystones. A special bus service will operate between Connolly and Greystones.

Maynooth and Drogheda Commuter services operating normally

Maynooth and Drogheda line services are now operating normally at weekends, to and from Pearse.

Provision will be made for weekly and monthly DART/Commuter Rail Only season ticket holders for travel on scheduled Dublin Bus services at weekends on affected routes.

    Remainder of project

Final works including substation commissioning, and additional sidings at Fairview to cater for the expanded DART fleet will then be completed by the end of 2005, with the overall project set to be completed on time and on budget.

Iarnród Éireann apologises to customers for disruption resulting from this important investment project, which will allow the DART to cater for its record and growing number of customers into the future.

    Fleet expansion
In parallel with the DART Upgrade project, Iarnród Éireann is investing in the DART fleet to facilitate eight-carriage trains. The 40 carriage order worth €80 million has been delivered and are now all in service. The delivery of this order completes the doubling of the DART fleet in just four years, and will also allow Iarnród Éireann to begin the refurbishment of the original DART fleet, now 20 years old.
