Google workarounds for boards.ie search

Ladies and Gentlemen, it should come as no surprise to any of you that the search function has been disabled owing to server difficulties. And while Google has been touted as an alternative, its really kinda bad when it comes to site searching. It throws up user profiles, edit pages, etc. Its not much use on its own. So…

And while Google has been touted as an alternative, its really kinda bad when it comes to site searching. It throws up user profiles, edit pages, etc. Its not much use on its own. So lets do a little tweaking...

To search the text of posts - Can return the most results
allintext: Search query here -user -profile site:www.boards.ie

To search the titles of posts
allintitle: Search query here -user -profile site:www.boards.ie

Fugly search by user
allintext: User name here -profile site:www.boards.ie

Unfortunatly, even still it can be a bit hit and miss. Also, Google won't have the very latest posts in their cache, so don't expect to be able to find a thread that you posted in yesterday, or perhaps even last week. I'll be doing a little more looking around as I can, and if you find any solutions feel free to post.

Would an announcement not do? tbh the reason I use searches, like alot of others, is to find out my last 10 posts for threads I lose track of. There must be a less server heavy method of keeping that tracked.

Was kinda suprised to see the search disabled and really miss it. Can see that there's only so much server available and I'm on here for free...

I really like boards the way it is, but I for one would be happy to pay a sub just to have a search facility...

While this may go against board ethos - I think it makes some kind of sense.

Just a thought is all...
