Hey, I want to get my lip pierced but I won't be able to wear it in work cos I work around the public... there's no "rules" regarding piercings in my job but I think it's a bit of common courtesy to my employer to not come in with piercings and to cover up my tattoos...

Anyways, If I get my lip pierced how long will it be (approx) before I can take it out and put in a retainer and is a retainer obvious looking?

hah..common courtesy?>!I must be missing it then, cos I never take out any of my pirecings...

You can change it to a retainer after a couple of weeks, I'd leave it about two or three at least, but that's just me...I've got a vrtical labret and what I usually do for work(cos it's the only piercing i get hassled about) is I screw off the bottom ball and put a clear one on top...but I personally find that it's still noticable, although only when you're up really close...
If it's just a standard labret piercing, then you could just screw the ball off...

Agreed. Mine was practically invisible with the ball off, even more so if you grow a little schmeg* around it.

*schmeg = little bit of facial hair on the labret area

Heh, nah I work for my dad's friend who helped me out when I couldn't find a job so I don't want to go getting piercings and just expecting nothing to be said :)

Tbh I've seen people doing this and it's still obvious enough, I'd prefer to have a transparent bar or something (like a regular retainer) that'd be near invisible

I don't seem to grow facial hair :(

I have my lip done a couple of years now. I don't wear any facial piercings at work, due to being a manager-type person. I used to wear a retainer in my lip during the day, and change it back to a ring in the evenings after work, but I've "trained" the piercing to stay open now, so I don't need to put anything at all in it. Can't really do that til it's a couple of months old though, and it does take a few weeks to do.

You can get good retainers from bodybonz - nearly invisible, and very comfy. You shouldn't wear any acrylic/plastic in a piercing til it has healed though.

ok..if you dont' want to screw off the ball off a normal bar, then I suggest you just get a retainer for a labret piercing, and not put the ball on that....it'll be virtually invisable...I think putting even a clear ball on it though, is noticable...but if that's what you wanna do.go for it! ;)

slightly off topic, my septum is lower than avg (see pic)

    Steveland? :
If it's just been pierced then you need to keep metal jewlery at least 6-8 weeks before putting in a plastic retainer. the top of the retainer is slightly larger than 1.6mm and really has to be pushed and popped in, so if you try to put one into a piercing that has not properly healed it will bleed and swell. I've seen it happen many times. it really is best let the piercing heal properly first to avoid complications.

hey elephant king, is it already pierced or are you planning to pierce it? cos if your planning on piercing it ask for it to be done high up otherwise it will be very obvious because you do have a low septum and i think it would be noticable no matter what you put in.....

yup, I'd say ask for it to be pierced a little higher up.
I've just got an sverage septum really, but I got mine pierced on wedensday and have a flipped up retainer in it, to hide it from the folks/work and it's doing the job...pretty invisable, unless you look straight up my nose!loL!

yeah...lmao! I know it's crazy..I have so many and I still have to hide them...plus I hate hiding them..and it keeps tickling me up my nose..and it doesn't help I'm just after getting a cold..but ya know!lol! I still hide my implants...well not so much hide them, but cover them up around the appropriate people....like my parents!lol!
I'm still quite young!!It's easier to hide stuff sometimes....plus..a lot of people around here don't take kindly to how I look!lol!

    hey E king
Metal morphosis pierce 17 year olds, thats their minium age. better than C.R i think, and its only round the corner from bodyshock.
    Good luck with it. :)

    thanks for the research,
ill call into them to see what they can do in the way of a higher septum and then decide.

Metal Morphosis are *not* as good as CR. There're plenty of warnings against it in these parts.

I have a transperant labret which i screw the ball off for, barely noticeable even up close.
While the ball was also transperant, like Pornstar said it was still noticeable...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

yeah, I think it's only so noticable when you're up close to people...but obviously if you're in a job situation you're gonna be up close with customers and what not anyway...what I've strarted doing is screwing off the ball on the bottom of my vertical labret and just putting a clear one on the top...customers aren't an issue, it's just my boss.So i can just hide the top one with my top lip anyway!

and I agree with Itwasn'tme ..there's plenty of warnings against metal morphosis around these boards...I'd suggest either waiting til a decent shop will pierce you, or if you must then CR, before MetalM!
    good luck though!
