I have an UK Orange branded and locked V3i which I want to use when I'm home in Ireland with my Vodafone PAYG card. I heard there is software available to debrand/unlock the phone which is e-mailed around by people "in the know" to each other. Anybody know anything about this??

A myth
Either ask Orange for the unlock code if you've spent enough with them or you need to bring to an experienced person who will unlock it using software and procedure called "testpoint" . There's loads of software around but the testpoint is difficult and if carried out incorrectly will damage your phone beyond repair.

6680 is a BB5 platform phone, which means the only way to unlock is to get a code from the network.

Unfortunately 3 Ireland appear to be the worst network to get codes from and claim that they cannot unlock any BB5 Nokia phone.

Thanks it's for a friend. She just got off the phone with 3 customer service who told her that noone could unlock the phone because nokia won't give out the codes but if for a fee of €25 they might be able to get the code off nokia!
Could this phone be unlocked at one of the shops in town like the one on O'Connell St?

No, only way is to get Nokia unlock code from 3, no third party unlock is available anywhere.

This phones used a new ASIC, ASIC 11, and no current code calculator can unlock it.

There is however one way to unlock them, that is to flash them with Nokia 1600 firmware, however the radio will no longer work
