just watched it and it raises far more damn questions then answers.

I think Walt and Desmond must be a similar breed of whatever as they both must have "powers"

I wan to know the truth!

Desmond intregues me a lot. I don't think he's God - why would God take drugs, or use handguns? I'd say its more likely that he's a fallen angel. He's not necessarily evil, but far from perfect. While he is capable of interceding with minor miracles, I'm willing to bet that all these miracles wear off after a certain amount of time. Hurley's lottery success, Sarah's recovery. Something goes badly wrong every time.

I also noticed the giant 108 on the wall. Does that mean that Desmond is paying homage to the numbers for some reason, or is he just as devoted as Hurley in trying to work out what they mean?

I also noticed the subtle introduction of "Mr. Rutherford" in the emergency room. I'm willing to bet this is the link between Jack and Shannon. Its also possible that the family were upset with Jack for treating Sarah instead of Mr. Rutherford, but thats just speculation.

Does anyone know what the whispers in the jungle said before Walt showed up? They were quite audiable, but I just couldn't quite make them out.

desmond says that he was "almost a doctor", is he a biotechnologist of some sort perhaps? Engineering diseases and the like...

    The cure
    cure.jpg
The reason the numbers were being broadcast ie someone was looking for it .
Never found it went a bit mad :D

Desmond there as he volunteered (almost a Dr) to do the experiment and wasnt really ona race around the world. The testing is going on years but hes only there circa 2 years (met jack before he met sarah so not there long)

Hence the goverment know about the Island. Fresh eggs tho where did they come from? Do the others supply the guinea pig? Is the testing being done to make superhumans hence wanting someone special like walt or the baby.

Erm....a big wtf??? How weird was that episode? I really thought I had gotten the wrong media file at the start with the bike, and the record and the injecting etc.

There have been some strange episodes of Lost, but this is by the far the weirdest!

I have never found Jack's flashbacks interesting,so no surprise there.
The flashback of Desmond right before Jack going into the hatch made it quire obvious it would be him in there. But why is he there? who is he? I presume he is the one quarantined and the stuff he was injecting was a short lasting cure.

The Walt scene was really creepy, dripping with water and saying something that you really can't make out.

We find out what is in the hatch, but did it really answer any questions???? No! It just provided us with a load of new ones! :p Also remember the hatch was buried under ground,so...:p

Nothing from the raft guys this week...will they focus on that next week and leave us waiting for more of Desmond and the hatch until the week after!!!???

Damn this show is good,I hate having to wait another week :p

Why would it say "quarintine" on Desmond's side and not the other side?

It's a warning sign so surely it would be on the side that its trying to... warn, no?

**** it, I'm sure it will make sense in a few episodes.

I don't know..lol,there was just so much weird stuff in that episode that I am still trying to process it all!! Also the place where he was living in the hatch was a cool looking dome type thing...strange.

Oh ye,and the scariest thing of all in that episode was Jack's 90's Tom Cruise hairstyle :D

I'd say that he doesn't get out, hence the exercise bike, and also that it say quarantine on his side of the hatch meaning that the other side (island) is the quarantined area.

How did you here what walt was whispering. I put it on captions and It said Indiscriminate whispering.

I must admit im sorry now that I read the spoilers for this before watching it. Bad Spoiler Whore Saucey. My brother called me right before the last commercial break was up and said that it was just like he predicted. It's some kind of military testing sight for a resident evil like facility, and thats why they needed walt.

My brother is officially the biggest idiot in the world.

Obviously the "Lift it Up" remark was a double meaning. Keep the ankle raised and pray. I caught the see you in another life remark too. I wonder if Desmond knew.

As for the old equipment well obviously he wasn't the only one to have been in the hatch. The French Lady has been there for sixteen years and she was drawn in by the numbers being transmitted by the hatch(an assumption) So is Desmond the actor from Oz cause i never watched that show.

Did everybody else wanna punch The fiancee. What a jerk.

I do like the skitzo Shannon. She may be more fun this year.

All in all it was a Great episode cause if they gave you all the answers in the first episode of the season would you really want that.

I'm swearing off spoilers for the rest of the season. From now on I watch them when they are on tv.

How long was Boones father dead(as he died in the crash, and thats when jack met sarah, at his wedding party thing she says 18 months ago jack saved me)? Thats how long Desmond is in the hatch at the very most, i guess 4 years to keep with the numbers.

Damn that was good. I've been rtying to make out what the whispers in the forest were saying, it souds like "They're still alive" then some noise and then it definitely says "Shannon". Could it have been Walt refering to those on the raft maybe?

Anyway, the bit in the stadium with Desmond was strange and I was wondering what he meant by "See you in another life" and I was thinking maybe he'd turn up on the island too. The "keep it raised" bit must have some other meaning, either that or it's a red herring to keep us guessing.

Why did Jack and Sarah break up? That was never revealed in series one was it? Perhaps, as someone said, all of Desmonds miracles break down after a while. Maybe Sarah went back to being paralised and either didn't want to stay with Jack or he didn't want to be with her?

So many questions, and they're not all going to be answered next week. Great to have it back though, just in time for BSG and the Stargates mid season breaks.

I was giddy and giggling like a little girl by the end of it. Loved it! Typical lost - answer one question with 10 new questions. :)

Damn this is a great show...

I'm not even going to try and speculate about the old 70s set or Desmond. I have a feeling next week is all raft related (since the episode is called Adrift)... it might be a frustrating fortnight before we find out more!

Couldn't be more happy with the episode! That opening sequence ranks right up there with the opener of the pilot episode. Completely fooled me into thinking it was a flashback until i saw the mirrors! ha! I literally have no idea what direction they're taking with the introduction of Desmond and that is what I love about Lost: just how unpredictable it is. I was a little upset to not see Ana Lucia in the episode, but hey, what can you do? Episode 2 seems so far away as well!

Ok so I have a terrible memory. When did we see Sarah before? And how do we know the guy that died in the ER was Boone/Shannon's (step)dad?

The key is for the case that he keeps the guns in.

Sarah was the woman that Jack was going to marry. It was in the flashback sequences in the episode where Boone died if I remember correctly.

And the guy who died in ER shares the same surname as Boone and Shannon.

    I presume
Jack consoled her when her fiancé ran off after the accident, they fell in love, but realised later it was based on pity or gratitiude or something, and Sarah left him.

I think I'll be watching this one again, as there are lots of little things I missed in the general excitement.

anyone notice the modern washing machines amongst all the 70s retro stuff in Desmonds pad?

Also regarding the quarantine, i think it makes sense that the Island is the quarantined area (no normal islandside entry to hatch and no quarantine warning on the islandside), and it'll add another element to the story as Desmond will probably be a tad pissed that he's been exposed to whatever is in the quarantine area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

I've only seen the first half so far, but here's my thoughts...

i was reading through the thread and was amazed how long it took someone to figure out the significance of the quarantine sign being on the inside of the hatch.

if somewhere is quarantined you put the sign on the side you want to keep people away from, so if the dude in the hatch was quarantined the sign would have been on the outside, not the inside, so the island is the quarantine area, not inside the hatch. imho.

jack seeing desmond in the outside world just says to me, that the whole thing was meticulously orchestrated from a long time before the crash, using whatever powers 'the others' have to get the peoople they wanted/needed onto the island.

as for the injections, doesn't seem like it's something desmond discovered, unless he has a label printer attached to that antique pc he was using to label up all the bottles.

the whole thing is a huge conspiracy, just because of the scale of it.

I'm thinking the island of dr. moreau or something like that, but it would have to be government funded unless there's a rich billionaire funding the qhole thing.

seems to me though that it's a very long term project as the french chick was there a good few years (13 or 17 wasn't it?) and was most likely well established when her team got there.

i'm thinking super human experiments or something along those lines. definately something that's been in the pipeline for years anyway, and planned out specifically to involve everyone on the island for one reason or another.

i'm thinking precognition to see what it would be possible to do, as well as other abilities to influence the passengers into ending up on that one plane. so many of the things that have happened did so because of who was there, and wouldn't have gone down the same way if they weren't. it's all part of the master plan (whatever it is).

They did look a bit like Dyson Contrarotators alright...

Also he seemed to have an adequate supply of washing up liquid and fresh cherries.

Do you think the computer terminal controls Lostzilla, perhaps?

The first thing that struck me after watching the show was the episode title. From last season the writers labelled Jack as the Man of Science and Locke as the Man of Faith. But this episode was clearly showing Jack's science vs faith conflict - nothing to do with Locke. It seems the title was for Jack alone.

I have a feeling that Desmond might have met more than just Jack (Will & Grace pun there!) before the crash - something that might unfold later.

The series of mirrors leading all around the underground base infers that this is not the first time a breach has happened.

The island is definately the quarantined area.

Desmond is unaware of what happens on the island - it seems he gets info via the computer and responds accordingly. If he knew what was happening, he would have seen the attempt to open to hatch

I figure it's the rest of the island that's quarantined from desmond, because the hatch couldn't be opened from the outside. If it was the other way around, then you should be able to open the hatch from the island.
