Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New Intertoto format announced by UEFA

Rome, Sept 21 (Reuters) - The format of UEFA's Intertoto Cup is set to change from the 2006-07 season, a meeting of the European body's executive committee in Rome decided on Wednesday.

Under the new format, clubs in the close-season competition will play three rounds instead of five.

The 11 winning teams from the Intertoto Cup third round will go through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

The 49 participating associations will have one place in principle.

As the system stands at the moment, teams play five rounds, with three progressing to the UEFA Cup first round.

'Eleven sides, instead of three, will qualify for the UEFA Cup,' UEFA communications and public affairs director William Gaillard was quoted as saying on UEFA's website.

'We will also endeavour to have one participant from the member associations.

'If this is not the case because of vacancies, or countries not entering teams into the competition, then we will establish criteria to designate clubs from other associations to enter the competition.'

Can only be good news for the Eircom League. Good to see.

Yes good news all right. it will certainly make it easier for EL clubs to qualify. Finally UEFA have come up with a good idea. It will also mean teams dont have to start playing European football so early in the summer from now on
