Names Cian, living in Belgium and am returning to Ireland after living abroad for the past 12 years(England and Belgium) I'm into punk, ska, caffeine and TV. Play bass.
I'll be moving to Galway in about 4-6 weeks. Probably gonna do History, sociology and politics and law in an Arts degree.
Sure it'll be great fun. Galway is quite a place

If you end up doing these for your degree, you're in for a relaxed time.

Just finished my B.A. (in History and Soc & Pol), and will hopefully be starting a Masters in September.

    It sucks. Boring, long-winded, repetitive.

I'm a third year Arts student. At the moment the place is wrecking my head. There's non stop talk of post grad's extra. I do soc&pol and psychological studies. I want to do the higher dip in Psy, just to bide my time before the enlightenment of what to do next strikes!

Enjoy your time. All though it gets stressful it is the best experience of my life.:p

hmmm been on boards for ages and never bothered to notice this place...

hi i'm a 3rd arts as well, although pretty pissed off with the place by now. my departments are mind bogglingly disorganised, getting my degree has just been a shambles at times.... think wrong papers been given in the exams, lecturers positions not being filled until a few weeks into term, delay in being assigned final year projects, **** like that...

anyway i'm probably not the only one with horror stories of the place so ill just
    /rant.

    Arts is badly organised.
Soc and Pol has people sitting on the floor and History has been double booked twice.

Heh just wait till 2nd year where they throw you into classrooms with 5 or 6 other people for the year, most of whom youve tried on in some shape or form during numerous nights out over the past few months :D
2nd Arts with History and Classics ftw!

    Welcome!

Yes, September, bring it on. We shall recommence the bitter rivalry between the lowly Med. Physicists and the vastly superior Experimentalists.

Are there really more med physicists than experimentalists?

Btw, when you say dissect a cadaver do you mean actually dissect one (using a scalpel) or do you get to look at a dissection while it takes place?

Just finished 2nd Arts, French and Spanish. Heading on Erasmus to Spain in Septmeber, will miss NUIG and all the banter that comes with it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,277 ✭✭✭poisonated

you do french and spanish...do you have 2 erasmus years or do you get a choice between the 2 countries?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Spanglished

Well, I took up Spanish at beginner level when I started first year and had Leaving Cert French. You have a choice which country you want to go to, but you cannot split your Erasmus (i.e spend half a year in France and the other half in Spain).
So they normally recommend you to go to Spain, that said if you REALLY wanted to go to France they'd let you, no problem.

But the catch is, the French department have a regulation that you need to spend at least 10 weeks in France if you're no doing Erasmus there, so that's during your summer holidays.
The French department give you no help whatsoever in deciding what to do during those ten weeks. So another girl on my course and I decided to go to Montpellier for the summer and try to get a job, no luck so far, it seems there's a big time recession here too :(
Although I provisionally booked a French course here before I came, so looks like I might end up doing that! Grr, French department being so unhelpful!
