County please leave the moderating to the moderators.

Yup I have heard about this...
Michael McDowell is apparently Han Solo...

    Princess Leah?

    I think not.

    An innovative idea I suppose.

Can't help but be reminded of those "Gulf War 2: Clone of the Attack" posters that were kicking around a while back.

I suppose the use of parody/caricature/PhotoShop is the norm in political circles now (Fine Gael's anti-PD posters on their website) as opposed to, oh I don't know, policies worth a damn....

The Young PD's have proved with this campaign something we've been saying for a long time now - they're nothing more then Space Cadets.

But looking at the leaflet I can see they've confused a few characters -

Bertie Ahern is more like R2D2, a small trundling Taoiseach that makes little nonsensical noises, wanders around aimlessly and is always lurking in the background for no apparent reason.

Brian Cowen would fit in nicely as Jabba the Hutt, a hording sour-faced miser who has little grasp of right or wrong.

Conor Lenihan has to be C3PO, an idiot that always says and does the wrong things at the worst possible time.

Harney could be the death star - a horrific creation that has the power to destroy us all.

The jabbering Ewoks remind me of the Government back benchers - simple creatures who don't speak at all but jump up and down squealing when someone challenges them.

I can easily see Gerry Adams as Chewbacca, a large bristly mass of hair who makes little sense and thinks any problem will go away if you yell a lot and use enough force.

Enda Kenny of course would be the tea boy working for the film crew, never says anything and never allowed in the picture.

And of course McDowell, well lets just say "Luke!! I am die Fuhrer...."

Maybe it's time PD's should come back down to Earth and see what a shambles they've left this country in.
    ...

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Chancellor Ahern has turned to the left-side. After being indoctrinated at Inchydoney, Ahern has exiled the powerful PD Jedi, known as Obi Wan McCreevy, to Brussels. With the loss of this skilful Jedi Knight, the PD Council is losing control of the Senate. The corrupt republican party have forbidden the eager Jedi McDowell from duelling to the death with the selfish Publican's Federation and have permitted a tribe of incompetents to build the second interplanetary terminal, despite the wishes of the wise PD Council.

So they've realised they're being sidelined by FF yet they still want to prop up this "corrupt republican party" -

Are they now admitting the publicans lobby was behind the cafe bar proposal being dropped
Trouble looms in the Republic. The socialists have formed an unholy alliance with the blueshirts to inflict their extremist left-wing ideology on the people. They want to invest €1 billion in Aer Lingus, the Senate-owned trans-Galactic space shuttle, rather than investing the money in hospitals throughout the Republic

this is rich coming from the party that exports patients overseas and wants to privatise our health service to the point where it'll be "only health care" for those who can afford it
Meanwhile, the evil Provisional movement, under the leadership of the mysterious wookie-faced Lord Gerry, are sheltering enemies of the Republic. They are wanted for selling the construction plans of their Deathstar to rebel forces on the drug baron planet of Colombia. After thieving millions in the infamous Northern Star robbery, the evil Shinners have agreed to allow General De Chastelain dismantle their illegal ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC. However, the Senate remains doubtful that they will cease their interplanetary smuggling and racketeering.

I'm not sure Liz O Donnell would agree with all this "evil...."
A small but powerful group known only as the PD Jedis, are determined to prevent the evil Shinners and Socialists from taking control of the Senate and implementing economic policies that only work on the third moon of the Planet Naboo.

more like determined to hold on to power
They have already won major battles against the socialists, allowing them to create a low tax, full employment economy. They have defeated the selfish Taxi Driver's Federation, ensuring that nobody has to queue for hours to get home. They have successfully slain the evil Emperor Haughey and set up tribunals to put the corrupt soldiers of destiny behind bars.

taxi's - when was the last time a pd person queued for a taxi cause that statement "nobody has to queue for hours to get home" is rubbish and as for creating a low tax economy - well low income tax possibly but what about all the high stealth taxes

I'm no PD lover, but I do remember the early 90's before Taxi-deregulation and the 2-hour farce that was trying to get out of Dublin city centre on weekend nights.

Back then the taxi trade was so lucrative that guys were putting ads in Evening newspapers offering to trade a house in Dublin for a taxi plate.

...and I say it again, I'm no PD lover, but Harney was the only politician with balls (!) enough to tackle the almost militant self-interest lobby group that was the Taxi Drivers Federation back in the early 90's.

There is space for a Right of centre party in this country, however, the PD's are just, well, scary.

Normally in your youth you start off being quite a lefty and move steadily right as you get older. God help the Young PD's.

Your memory is failing you. The PD's (and the Govt) had little to do with taxi deregulation. In fact, they wanted to give a limited number of additional plates to the existing taxi drivers. From http://ted.examiner.ie/archives/2000/October/14/current/ipage_21.htm
The ruling came in a case taken by Dublin and Dundalk hackney drivers against Government plans to award current taxi drivers most of the 3,100 new taxi plates being issued.

The actual deregulation was a decision of the High Court.

    From http://www.finfacts.com/irelandbusinessnews/publish/article_10003249.shtml
PD Senator John Minihan who is also a pharmacist. claimed credit for the deregulation of the taxi trade. In fact, deregulation followed a High Court decision.

    From http://ideas.repec.org/a/bla/ecaffa/v23y2003i4p34-40.html
The deregulation of the taxi sector in Ireland by the High Court in 2000 brought a three-fold increase in taxi numbers and much reduced passenger waiting times for taxis. The deregulation decision by the High Court was based on the rights of persons to enter a sector for which they had the training and skills and the right of the public to purchase the services of such persons. The decision was upheld in judicial review

Bobby Molloy only stepped in once the court had made the tough decision.

But it was the courts that caused deregulation, not the government.

The only thing I can credit the pd's with was the move to keep third level free(ish). Only thing was....It was a bit....Socialist!

Again, credit where no credit is due. There was no serious plan to reinstate 3rd level fees. There was (yet another) solo run by Noel Dempsey who made a couple of comments in passing, but this was never a serious policy position. FF won't bite the hand that feeds.
