    I don't understand the way these are set up. Why is there a Sports section with a Sports section underneath, and the same with Television?
    The way Films is done makes more sense, without the double-layer category entry.

    "Historical reasons"

    (A phrase used in several technical areas to mean "Gods it's so obvious now that we probably shouldn't have done it that way, but we did").

    I find this 'grouped hierarchy' rather annoying too.

    For the same reason that there's a "Dublin City" in "Dublin County" (in real-life [tm])

    Well, you've got your 13 categories (Arts, Biz, etc), and some of these have sub-categories - recognised because they have an epsilon(...) before their title.

    Television is a sub-category of arts, and Television is a forum in the television sub-category for general discussion.

    Notice that you can't start a discussion in a category, only in a forum. It seems to be conventional that if there's a few forums with a logical grouping, they are grouped together in category, rather than say, a Television forum with
    Big Brother
    David Hasselhoff
    Lost
    Soap Operas
    Television Awards

    sub forums, which would also make sense.

    You can see the heirarchy in the biki: [wiki]Category:Arts[/wiki]

    [/promotion]

    Films is a forum in Arts, and Film Awards is a sub-forum of the films forum.

    In the case of Sports, there is a Sports forum for general discussion under the Sports category.

    There is an inconsitency though in the way For Sale is organised. For sale is a closed forum rather than a category, with many sub-forums.

    Again, must be for "historical reasons".

    Aye, but Television should also be a forum in Arts, by the same token, with its own sub-forums, as opposed to a category with a forum of the same name ensconsed therein.

    I do quite like the Dublin city/county analogy though, wacky as it is.

    Aye, and it was that way up until only a few months ago. So why did it change?

    Rec->Motors->Motors, Motorbikes, Classic Cars

    why not

    Rec->Motors-> Motorbikes, Classic Cars
