Clearwire issues AGAIN...

    Clearwire is fscked AGAIN.

Second or third time this week. For an hour I couldn't get an IP address.
Check out the pings. When it's good it's great but when it's like this it is unusable. At least Ripwave you could at least open webpages, I've barely been able to do that this evening on Clearwire!

Really considering cancelling at this stage.

Yes, it's still up and down now, this has been going on since I got home around 7pm.

Going to be looking into getting DSL tomorrow.

This is kind of worrying. I've had Clearwire now since last Thursday and it's been great so far. It does tend to go up and down a bit, as regards download speeds (Anywhere from 15 KBps - 250 KBps), but it's still quite good in general. My ping times are quite reasonable, and have no problems running VoIP or other latency dependent apps.
Have you contacted them about this? It sounds like some kind of interference in between you and the mast, or maybe an issue on the mast itself. Can you please give some more info if they get back to you, as I'm on a 30 day trial period with it, and need to decide before then if I'm gonna keep it. Have to say, I've been very happy with it so far, but if I keep it more than 30 days, then I will be tied to a 12 month contract.....

as they are still prelaunch, strictly speaking , they may be tuning the system at present in Dublin.

in areas with one mast , such as Naas , and no sector tuning required to avoid cross interference from other masts of theirs , it could be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

My god I would hope they've finished their tuning and testing now considering their Launch date is October 1st!

If they even sent a mail to their customers if this *is* testing...I doubt it's interference as I have almost full signal.

Also, I get assigned a 169.* IP address which suggests issues with DHCP on their end.

I'm going to fire off a mail to them when I get into work.

They're swapping out the modem tonight, good service!

    Hopefully this sorts the problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

Well they swapped out the modem and no change!
Until...just now, when I woke up and noticed four solid lights on my modem -speeds and pings are back to normal.

The guy who swapped the modem suggested maybe interference on the Harolds X transmitter and I think he might be right. A network engineer is coming out to take a look.

Wonder how long Comreg take to investigate illegal broadcasts though. I won't hold my breath.

Are you happy with them , thats the main thing :)

Would that be someone elses fault, not Clearwire ???

Yes i'm happy with them when it works! And their customer service is great thus far.

I would guess it could be a pirate radio station causing the interference. It's not really up to Clearwire to track them down if this is the case, it's ComReg's job. And considering they only seem to do a sweep on pirates every 5 years...

Comreg hate being called upon to do any work but Clearwire have paid for the spectrum and are fully entitled to the same quality of Customer Service from Comreg that you got from them.

Having said that they will probably have to kidnap a Comreg droid and superglue it to the interfering transmitter to get some proper action :(

Pirate radio stations use the 3.5Ghz band now? If it's interference I'd say it's probably another wireless operator. I won't mention names but some of them don't seem to be the most clued in. Could also be a Clearwire misconfiguration of their sectors.

At least they're dealing with your problem. Irish Broadband managed to get back to me about a problem over a month after I reported it to them. They haven't solved it yet either other than concluding that there seems to be a problem. No ****.

Yeah could be, will see what the network engineer guy says tonight, i'll post up here later.

My clearwire went down last night from after 6:30 in the Portobello area. Was back this morning at 7:30 when i checked again.

Very frustrating. They are goin to need to keep a stable service to hold customers. I really hope they get it right as i like what they are trying to do.

Keep up the good work Clearwire.

They had a hardware failure last night, just got a mail from one of the networks guys.
It came back up around 6am this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

    Yep, working perfectly now!

Definitely got good customer service in clearwire. If they dropped their prices a bit they'd be perfect ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 502 ✭✭✭MickH503

I signed up with them last week in Maynooth. Guy told me that they would be revising their prices in the following couple of days - they were waiting for approval from USA. Either cheaper monthly rates or a 3 months free when you sign up kind of deal. I haven't heard anything since then though .....

eth0 keep up the great posts though ... I also really like Clearwire's service, but speeds a bit iffy so far, so keep us posted on your experiences!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 79 ✭✭sisyphus

Have had mine now for 1 week, and it's been great thus far. The download speeds go up and down a bit, but I'm still getting about 50 KBps at the worst of times. Depending on server speed, I sometimes get around 300 KBps.
Hope the performance is always this good!

I just got Clearwire yesterday, and i get 5 lights, but after a few minutes of d/ling at 150 or so, it just cuts down to like 5k/sec, but the lights are the same. I cant figure it out, just plugged into my pc. Any idea whats wrong?

I believe they are dropping their prices quite soon (as in, in a week or two.)

Yeah, well I have about 20 houses worth of concrete and elecrical appliances directly between me and the high site, so I'm not complaining. Pretty bloody good if you ask me :)
