I browse alot of forums on the net daily and find boards to be by far the slowest to load. I have disabled the top add which seemed to help a bit but the load times are terrible.

I really like this site and I think its a great place to browse for information and off beat ramblings etc. But the slowness is a major negative in my opinion.

I know this issue has been raised before but I was am wondering will there ever be a solution to the problem ?

New servers are winging their way to boards.ie at the moment. Regi is setting them up and I would tentatively imagine that they will be up and running within a week or two (or more!:))

Ahh wont be long before the new servers arrive and the site should be back to normal.
It still only takes a few seconds to load a page anyways...

Should be grand in a week or too anyway, but for the moment it can be extremely annoying, but ah well, what can you do, admins are doing their best so we have to do our part and wait patiently :D

Yep. Here's some server porn, racked earlier this afternoon. Hopefully, we'll get them installed and load balanced tomorrow...

It's not all that slow, really, but for those who are nit-picking it, if you in any way remotely like the site, you'll stick it out.

Im not nit-picking, im giving FEEDBACK.

Read my first post again you dont seem to have got what I was trying to say.
There is nothing more tedious then sitting in front of the screen looking at 'Waiting for www.boards.ie.....' for extended periods of time every time you change a page. This however has not always been the case which is why I posted this thread.

I was unaware that there were server upgrades taking place btw.

    Ooh, pretty!

Sadly, unlike HEANet, you were too late to get the lovely glowy Itanium; Dell has now discontinued it.

Don't think we could quite stretch to Itaniums :P

its amazing how the world of boards fits into those small cabnets.
Btw Regi: Just a question i have to ask you. Knowing that this site is hosted by hosting 365, do they have a certain area where you can just go in and check things out on the server, and install new components, as ive heard you mention you do be swaping files from one to the other, do you just go to H365's data center and do your stuff?

Er.... Regi has a little more access to the core systems then most :)

Btw, y'all cant see me... but right now I'm looking at those servers and rubbing myself.

Please note that DeVore is currently not in Dublin. I am rubbing myself in an entirely different place.

You're not even giving feedback, you're simply saying Boards is great, and want to know when the speed is fixed.

My comment was not particularly aimed at you, nor a statement that glossed you, alone, as a nit picker - It was mere recognition that this very same damn topic has been posted and posted over and over again by other users who, like yourself, have missed the fact that server upgrades are currently underway to remedy the problem. As for naming this in your topic as the slowest site on the net, jokingly or otherwise, is a bit bastardish in my eyes as it's one of the sites (slow or not) that are actually worth tolerating (speed wise). I've come across many sluggish sites in my time that are absolutely useless in general, this is not one of them, so giving the browser an extra few seconds to load is not a big issue in my mind.

I read your post, thank you very much, but am just giving it a 'general' view, and stating my opinion that it's not all as bad as people make it out to be, as well as the fact that the remedy is being brewed as we speak, so have some patience.

    GO ROPEDRINK GO!!!!

So when exactly will the new servers be up?

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I expect regi is setting them up already or plans to very soon. The switch over should be quite quick but the cost of that is a long set up time while the lads configure it.
