Firewall terror

Right - I go back to Bradford uni, and the fascist *******s have decided to put up a great big firewall on the halls connections, which blocks all IRC and ICQ access (which is STUPID because games , warez, and everything else are not monitored and still work)! Can anyone explain in plain english how I can bypass this spawn…

Right - I go back to Bradford uni, and the fascist *******s have decided to put up a great big firewall on the halls connections, which blocks all IRC and ICQ access (which is STUPID because games , warez, and everything else are not monitored and still work)! Can anyone explain in plain english how I can bypass this spawn of satan? Here are some facts that may influence your answer:

1. only the halls connections are dodgy - the NT clusters allow access just fine.
2. Its a SOCKS5 firewall
3. I use win98 and win2k (dual boot)
4. I can get software by many *ahem* methods
