Bit of a cliche but how about the house of the rising sun!
    You could also try
    Tribute by Tenacious D
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin (quite tricky however)
Twelve Bar Blues - (you can do so much with it)

Bob Dylan songs are probably a good choice

hotel yorba by the white strpies or 7 nation army are always effective for getting people to sing louder than ur guitar at a party, hence drowning out the guitar when u miss a note!!

scissor sisters take your mamma out its good also for the stupidity factor

    Nirvana-Everybody knows a nirvana song!!!
For a quick little riff learn the intro 2 smoke on the water but just that bit because the rest of the song is rubbish!!!

Also try Everybody hurts by R.E.M.-Nice easy picking

Most nirvana songs are easy to play, and the solo tends to follow the melody of the vocals.
Sweet Dreams - Marilyn / Eurythmics
I Like Rock - Paul Gilbert
