Don't ever see it wrote anywhere but a big thank you to the TIG people for the downloads . It can be really difficult over here in Ireland to get a good d/l link when stuff is released and fair play to TIG they are always quick to put up the files for download.

So once more , thanks alot guys , really appreciated .

Out of the 2600+ ranked servers worldwide, the TiG ones were numbers #70 and #71 to get patched according to ASE.

Now if you could just sort out the completely shìt connection all UTV dsl users have to the TIG servers, that'd be great.

Been like that for weeks now. Always the same hop too, seems to be the transit between Level3 in london and hosting365.

Another UTV user and ex Tig regular (Well regular for the 2 weeks or so after I got the game till my pings went to ****) :D

Any hope of a resolution to this.

the only resolution i could find was to quit UTV and move over to eircom , that was 12 months ago and I'm a happy gamer since ......with a lighter pocket unfortunately.

This the problem you are getting guys??? :

you connect to server....loads up.....bring to map where you pick spawn and then just as you are about to pick spawn you get "There is a problem with your connection" and then it hangs for 10-30 secs and then kicks you back onto BF2 desktop.....was only a problem with TIG servers but in the last few weeks it has started to happen more regularily with UK servers as well....

I was thinking it was ****ty UTV so trying to get Metro in....anyone have this for gaming and do you know if any good??? I havent been able to connect to TIG since the start of BF2, demo server and all! !

As I understand it, UTV don't peer with us/INEX. Ask them to look into it on your behalf as the customer focused and conciencious supplier of internet connectivity they are.

    Alternatively, switch ISP.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Lucutus is correct. This makes them decent enough for UK servers, but ****e for irish ones. That said though, pings to the IOL DoD Source server from UTV are about 70ms, which is substantially better than the ~140 odd to TiG.

No idea what way the routing goes, maybe IOL peer with LINX or something as well?

On Digiweb Metro in Dundalk, nothing to complain about:

Pinging 82.195.136.136 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 82.195.136.136: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=122
    Reply from 82.195.136.136: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=122
    Reply from 82.195.136.136: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=122
    Reply from 82.195.136.136: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=122

    Ping statistics for 82.195.136.136:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 20ms, Average = 18ms

The problem doesn't have anything specific to do with UTV, it's the transit point between Level3 in london and hosting365 that's the problem. This is a problem that has occured recently enough aswell, playing on TiG servers with UTV used to be fine with steady ~50ms pings.. I did it all the time for months until late august when this started happening.

Network engineer here made a change to route traffic outbound from TiG server via NTL instead of Level3. I doubt it would help, but wouldn't mind seeing another tracert.

Aye, UTV being a member of INEX wouldn't hurt tho, would it? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,007 ✭✭✭Moriarty

Traceroute is the same as it was earlier as expected. Certainly would be nice if UTV peered at INEX, but people have been asking for that for years with no movement so I can't see it happening any time soon. I'll be getting rid of UTV at the first opportunity anyway, they've seriously lost any lustre they had previously.. just thought maybe something could be done in the meantime :)

    Cheers anyway.

I have decided to dump UTV......pretty crappy for a while....I used to have problems with connections to the NRG BFV server as well......wouldnt connect half the time and then work fine.....pi**ed me off but was waiting to see how BF2 went on it.....have never once got connected to the TIG BF2 server and when playng the demo one over 30 people joined I got kicked.....

Now it is starting to happen with alot of UK based server and other further afield so I couldnt be ar*ed waiting for them to fix

digiweb and Metro are same price and better upload/download speeds so should be sorted then!!

Thanks for the local download, making things much faster

    Don't worry.
    Moriarty is a fag anyway.
