Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's not a trick question, but you may very well be surprised at the answer.

    It's not Steve Galliers.

this is a tough one alright -is it a Newcastle player?

    Andy Cole?
    Peter`Beardsley?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Not Cole or Beardsley, I'm not giving away the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭YeatsCounty

I can't think of a player who would fit that role, but Fulham could be the club that this person plays for. They were in the old Division 3 in the late 1990's and they won the Intertoto Cup in 2002.

It must be a Fulham player since they are the only club to have played in all 4 divisions of English football.
They won the InterToto in 2002 so it must have been there too.

    So my guess is:
    Chris Coleman?

So I guess it's somebody retired, in which case I've got absolutely no idea :/

At least i've helped towards the general knowledge. It was a Fulham player so, people use your memories :)

Could it be an ex-swansea player?

Sean Davis? I know he's played all four div's with Fulham. Don't know about Europe tho? Perhaps a trick question and you're refering to the Intertoto or Anglo-Italian cup or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Pighead wonders was Steve Finnan with Fulham for all 3 of their promotions?

Correct! He played in the UEFA Cup after they won the Intertoto.

Steve Staunton, Mark Kinsella, Shay Given and Charley Hurley hold the record at Aston Villa, Charlton, Newcastle and Sunderland respectively

But the question is "record for what?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭Roddy23

    most consecutive appearances

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Not sure how to phrase it but are they all the Irish players with the most appearances for the club?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

(If I understand you?) that could well be true Joe, but that's not what I'm looking for. Plus that doesn't distinguish their achievement as every club probably has "some Irish guy" who holds "record appearance by an Irish guy" at that club :) Alternatively if you mean "most appearances in total for a club by any player" then I'd doubt any of those four fit the bill (Staunton doesn't anyway, just from a quick check)?

Anyway, the common record these guys hold is irrespective of them being Irish (kind of). I just picked 4 Irish examples for fun.

To make it easier (and to demonstrate its not just an Irish thing) I'll throw in another few to that list. Henning Berg at Blackburn, Mark Fish at Bolton.

What record for their respective clubs do these 6 examples have?

First player from their country to play for the club?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

    No.

Just from my own memory John Anderson played for Newcastle long before Given (and even he probably wasn't the first Irish guy to do so either?).

Just to clarify. A player doesn't need to be Irish to hold this record at their club BUT since it IS a record of some kind there can naturally be only one at each club (unless of course in the unusual case of a 'joint record' I suppose).

    Keep trying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,432 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

They were top of consecutive league appearances for their club for given seasons ? *clutches at straws*...or top of consecutive minutes played for their clubs...

    Given has to have been
Hurley definately has to have been

Do they all hold the record for the most international appearances for their respective clubs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

    Mikelmessi got the answer.

Basically each player mentioned won more international caps for their country whilst signed to that particular club than that anyone else (eg Staunton won 64 whilst an Aston Villa player)

    Over to you Mikelmessi.....

    Right so...

Four English players have been transferred for over 7 million pounds and have not played for England.

It's a single transfer fee I'm talking about, not cumulative amounts over the years.

And Theo Walcott doesn't count as his transfer is built in installments, the initial fee is "only" five million.

Got this from a mate..we came up with four but there may be more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Kevin Davies is the only one that springs to my mind right away.

Dean Richards is definitely one - Soton to Spurs.

    Not sure about these three:

Kevin Davies - Soton to Blackburn.
Dean Ashton - Crewe to West Ham
Carl Cort - Wimbledon to Newcastle

    Is that the four?

Gonna post a question just for the sake of keeping the thread moving.

Name a Premiership player who has scored in the English League Cup Final, Uefa Champions League Final, and the Uefa Cup Final?

Easy enough question but unsure if there is more than one, but I cant think of two.

Thought of one today while having a conversation with someone. It's pretty easy, but really don't know if it's correct.
Only player to win the Premiership with two clubs?
Henning Berg? Blackburn/United? I just don't know if he was at Blackburn when they won it. Couldn't think of any others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic
